🎉Mum planting day is complete!!!!🎉 We are so excited to share that on Wednesday we planted 400 mums that will be available at Country Pumpkins in September!

After days of cleaning out the greenhouse, making a trip to a greenhouse supply store, doing hours and hours of final set up, and running irrigation……..we finally got to plant our mums! Thankfully, we had lots of hardworking, amazing helpers and we knocked it out in about 4 hours. (Also shoutout to my (Shelley’s) mom who brought a delicous lunch and 2 pies to keep us fueled up! 😍)

We ended up with about 100 tricolor pots, 60 large 11 inch pots, and 240 nine inch pots. They look fantastic and we are so excited to watch them grow over the next 3 months.

The storms that night were scary. It’s like we had 400 new babies outside and weren’t sure how they would do. Great news - they came through without a scratch! 🙌

Please comment and let us know your favorite color mum!

Is everyone ok after the storms last night? We were very fortunate to avoid any damage here at the farm, but we know others weren’t so lucky. We are without power though. Here’s how we milk our cows when the power is out!

We had a very successful mum prep day today! This has taken MANY more hours than we anticipated, but we finally made it. We finished the greenhouse and got all the irrigation run. Plus, our baby mum plants arrived from Michigan! Tomorrow we plant!!!

Reporting in with a mum prep update! We are in the final days of getting our old greenhouse ready for our mums.

Today we worked on securing the black landscape fabric in the greenhouse. Tomorrow we’ll finish that up and also *hopefully* get all the irrigation run.

Also…..we realized that I (Shelley) made an error in calculating just how many mums would fit in there. 🤣 It’s not as many as we thought. 😩 In my defense it wasn’t a math error, rather an underestimation of how far apart our larger mums will need to be spaced.

As a result, we will be adding a row of landscape fabric just outside of the greenhouse to hold the rest. Ooops!

Mum planting is coming up soon and we’ve had a lot to do to prepare. Tuesday this week we took a trip down to a greenhouse supply store (thank goodness we found them!) and purchased all the supplies we will need for raising our mums: pots, soil, irrigation supplies, a chemilizer for distributing fertilizer through the irrigation system, and multiple special fertilizers.

As with any new addition, it’s more work and costs way more than we planned! 🤣🤣🤣 (Raise your hand if this has happened to you before!)

Next up, we need to finish prepping the greenhouse and setting up our irrigation system. All that has to be ready to go for our baby mums which will be arriving and getting planted next week!!!

(See photo captions for some more details.)
