My wonderful neighbors Dan and John were here yesterday helping me with the tractor - the bush hog blades won’t turn and the field desperately needs to be cut. Naturally Rusty wanted to be a part of it, he’s basically just a big old dog.
No luck with the bush hog yet…

Jackson has had a very busy and happy summer cruising around Sunset Hill Farm’s acres as well as venturing through Singing Meadows Preserve (which is the field next to Rusty’s) and then down to Shore Road sometimes walking more than 4 miles. Silly cat. He does most of his exploring at night and then konks out in the house during the day.

I proudly hang this flag from our house to honor law enforcement officers and their role as protectors, especially my son - Citrus Country, Florida’s new Deputy Sheriff Andrew E. Malone.

Four other officers close to our hearts in this house are 1) Johanna’s and my nephew William Eaton who is a Patrol Officer in Jackson, NH, and now retired after long, successful careers 2) Pam, my dear friend from college who went on to become a Detective, 3) her life partner Donnie who served as Lieutenant - both in Massachusetts, and 4) Andrew’s father-in-law Fred Hutchings who retired after 32 years total as a Police Officer in Boothbay Harbor and Damariscotta, Maine.

Thank you to the women and men in blue or whatever color your law enforcement uniform is.

Thank you to the customer who dropped off the cucumbers from their garden for our farm family. I cut some up small for Tilly & Dilly - the piggy sisters, and I will cut the rest into larger pieces for the chickens to enjoy. Tomorrow a friend is dropping off her extra arugula for Pollyanna (the goose) and Nellie (the duck). I limit the lettuce for the chickens because too much lettuce doesn’t agree with their digestive systems if you know what I mean.

Everybody gets rescued here, even this ginormous spider who was in the pool skimmer basket this morning. When I spotted it on the handle, I gritted my teeth and lifted the basket out by the handle, and then I paused to take a picture of this monstrosity. It wouldn’t move from the handle so I banged the basket on its side to knock off Mr. Spider and what do you think it did? He jumped off, looked at me and then ran over the edge back into pool and started swimming. Oh no you don’t! I scooped him up in the basket and delivered him to the patch of lillies over the stone wall. I may not be a fan of spiders but I don’t kill them when they are outside. I used to transport all the inside spiders back outside but there are too many in this old house to do that. Sorry spiders, you aren’t welcome in the house.

This might be a wolf spider, not sure, their bites are nasty. I only noticed one stripe. Its leg span was larger than a .50 piece. Yikes.

No AI here people, everything farmstand related is done manually - or should I say WOMANually - no fancy lit up signage, no AI posts, etc. Just a simple flag that says OPEN and at the end of the day, a coiled up bungee gets moved up the pole to tie it up.

Keeping it simple. Maine, the way life should be💚
