⚡️News Flash ⚡️
We are now offering Herb Focaccia in the farmstand as a soup accoutrement (all fresh herbs-basil, garlic, parsley, rosemary and sage). Warm it in the oven, slice it thin to put in your toaster or toss on the grill for a few minutes like we did. Then spread with butter, or dip in your favorite olive oil. It can also be used for sandwiches or “fare la scarpata” (Italian meaning to “mop up the remaining sauce” on your plate).

It’s pictured here with our popular farmstand Roasted Tomato Soup which is vegetarian, vegan, gluten free as well as dairy free. It’s a good night for soup! Heck, every night is a good night for soup. Comfort food❤️

Oh the magical properties of ACV - apple cider vinegar with the mother. I add it to the drinking water for the chickens for their gut health (about a tablespoon per gallon). The water in the blue saucer also has ACV added - it’s for Nellie the duck and Pollyanna the goose to take baths in since everyone is currently in lockdown (because of daytime fox attacks).
In the summer when the pigs have their hand-dug water hole for cooling off in, I pour a few glugs in to kill the algae. Green water becomes clear water, amazing.

Making asparagus and sun-dried tomato mini quiche hors d’oeuvres tonight for my brother’s daughter’s wedding a week from Saturday. They freeze beautifully and are always a favorite. Recipe to follow soon, and we’ve been making these for decades. Not kidding.

This girlie was giving me the what for this morning when I was collecting eggs. She is the oldest girl of them all and she’s from our very first flock of hens which makes her 8 years old. The funny thing is that she doesn’t lay any more so there were no eggs underneath her to protect, not even someone else’s.
Many hen owners cull or give away hens that don’t lay, but that’s not how we do it here. Everybody here gets to live out their retirement life at Sunset Hill Farm.

All of these heard within a few minutes while I am out back at the barn. Spring is magical, if only I could see them. Warblers are known to hop from one branch to another quickly, so they are very hard to find them with binoculars.

The farmstand hours are 10-5 but in the spring/summer/fall I close up after I get all the animals tucked into bed which can be anywhere from 7:30-9. Last night the farmstand looked especially pretty with the almost full moon above. I should have recorded a video as the peepers were peeping and the bullfrogs were ribbiting.
I just made that word up.

Rusty LOVES his new farrier and so do I. It was her second time here and he was truly relaxed with her. What a wonderful difference, she’s kind, gentle, and patient and he responds much better to love than to the opposite. He’s just a big old lovebug.
