Another outstanding heifer by 7 Lazy 11 NewKid Smokin’ Aussie out of Solitudes Lizzie (Lilyvale Dynamic bloodlines). Definitely on the replacement heifer list! I haven’t run DNA yet but expect excellent carcass traits… especially tenderness with a 10/10 for sire and 7/10 for dam.

7 Lazy 11 NewKid is doing a great job for our herd! Short gestation, high fertility, excellent carcass traits, and his calves are all born very healthy and growing fast.

We had Champion Genetics collect NewKid for the first time at the ranch last week with a yield of 235 straws on coastal hay alone coming off of winter. We will be offering semen for sale as soon as Igenity finishes testing for traits and conditions, and we get him on approved Sire lists. Can’t wait to see how he looks after the spring grass finally comes in!

Longevity and stayability is definitely a Murray Grey attribute! Solitude’s Rose is a 10 year old cow raising twin heifers on hay through the winter. She usually gets drawn down with every calf but they always remain healthy and grow well. And she breeds back on time every year.

For some reason 4 cows decided to have their babies a couple weeks earlier than expected right in the middle of a nasty ice storm. The mamma of this little heifer thought laying her down soaking wet in 0 degree wind chill next to a pond was a good idea. Poor little thing almost froze to death before we found her. She couldn’t stop shivering even buried in hay so Kevin covered her with warm towels and snuggled with her until she was warm 😂. Never thought that would be part of the rancher job description!

Yearling AI bull calf by JFP Apache Chief. He is 9 on tenderness and 7 on marbling. Growth is average for our herd performance weights, but the DNA predicts small birthweights and excellent calving ease. Potential herd sire although we have a nice Eagles Run High Roller son who may be better. Unfortunately we can’t keep them all!

Solitude’s Callie… 10 month old heifer by 7 Lazy 11 NewKid. She tested 9 on tenderness and has the growth we demand for our herd. Hoping for good maternal traits as well. NewKid has 13 calves on the ground and more coming. It will be interesting to see the dominant traits he passes along.
