The invasive giant hogweed plant can be found all around Harford County near stream beds, meadows and roadside. It looks like a very large Queen Anne’s Lace. The flowers are quite pretty. We have it on the edge of a few hay fields next to a stream and will work to eradicate it this coming spring. It is harder to be aware of this time of year as the flowers are gone. Our son brushed against one unbeknownst while hiking recently. A few hours later he was more than aware. 😮 He said the product Zanfel really helped with the burning.
While it is not a reason to not go out for a stroll, just be aware.

The sap contains furanocoumarins, which leads to phytophotodermatitis, a serious skin inflammation.[44] A phototoxic reaction can begin as soon as 15 minutes after contact with the sap. To my distress small tunnels started appearing in my beautiful arena.

I have one irrational fear; rats.
Brian got all over that, traps, bait, more traps. However there is no food source here so that seems strange. No luck.

Then after some research we realized that this is probably voles looking for a winter home. No way kids.
The conventional wisdom is because they are a herbivore you need to disrupt there sense of smell to move them on. So down their holes: dirty cat litter, dog p**p, spicy deterrent balls, urine. Brian said, “ this chapter is all you.”

I have officially fallen over the dahlia edge. Yes, dahlias are having a trendy moment, but I understand why💕💕. Yes, they are alot of work, but I understand why💕💕. Yes, I am planning to make my garden bigger, but I have to, as there are colors I need!!

There are 2 ways you can prune your raspberry plants in February. You can cut out the old wooden canes and top back the canes that fruited, or you can cut back to the ground.
The first method encourages an early summer harvest and the second method a late summer harvest. I used the second method as it is a time saver🤷‍♀️ when pruning, and with the late summer rains it worked out well this year.

Several weeks ago I was visited by 2 Harford county Master Gardeners to walk through and talk about my garden and ways to make it even more of a host garden for pollinators.

They were more than helpful and I was proud to be awarded pollinator status.

I did offer you a single family dwelling, but I do understand wanting a family adventure. I am sure it was much more fun startling me each time I reached for my shoes or gloves😃💕
