One of our favorite things about the Farm Store is that one stop supports so many talented local makers and small businesses. 💛

The Farm Store at Second chance Sanctuary & Heritage Bakehouse will be open this weekend. There is a variety of items available from baked goods, homemade soaps and scrubs, fudge, maple syrup and handcrafted items including several of our First Light Farmstead items.

Meet Willa 🪿

Willa is one of our ganders currently looking for a new home, and he adds a whole new meaning to being full of oneself.

lately he has discovered the mirror in the garden.

Unfortunately for Willa, he is completely convinced the handsome goose staring back at him is another gander that he must fight.

He postures. He pecks. He tries to grab his opponent’s feathers. And when he can’t actually grab the feathers of the goose in the mirror, he gets so worked up that he’ll occasionally pull at his own chest feathers instead. 🤦‍♀️

Meanwhile, the rest of the flock mostly stands nearby staring at him as if to say “Should we tell him…?”

We do keep a close eye on this behavior.

Geese are naturally territorial, and ganders can be especially competitive with other males. Birds can also mistake their own reflection for a rival and repeatedly challenge it.

Interestingly, in Willa’s case, his ongoing feud with Mirror Willa seems to be giving him somewhere to direct some of that energy. Since he started picking fights with himself, we’ve actually noticed less fighting between him and the other ganders. So, for now, we’re monitoring him closely and letting him work through his very complicated relationship with the handsome stranger in the garden. 🤣

Somewhere out there is the perfect home for Willa and his conceaited ego.

It is Friday, which means it is time to start thinking about weekend treats and local shopping!

The Farm Store at Second Chance Sanctuary & Heritage Bakehouse will be open Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM–3 PM.

Along with some of our First Light Farmstead products, you will find baked goods from their farm and other local bakers, handmade items, sweet treats, and more.

A few weeks ago, we introduced Minion to the ocean and, other than being thoroughly disgusted by the taste of salt water, he absolutely loved it. 😂

He splashed around, explored the shoreline, and even got brave enough to venture out a little past where his feet could touch so he could practice some dog paddling. For his first ocean adventure, he did pretty darn well. 🖤

The best part, though, was watching him take one good lap of salt water and immediately realizing he had made a terrible mistake. His face was absolutely priceless, and I’m still kicking myself for not catching it on camera. 🤣

Safe to say, Minion gives the ocean itself a big paws-up… but the drinking water is highly discouraged.

Meet Connor! 🦎💚

Connor is A’s bearded dragon, and one of the things I love most about his story is that she bought him herself with money she earned pet sitting.

She’s had him for about a year now, and while we don’t know his exact age, based on his size we believe he’s at least 3 years old, possibly older.

This sweet guy has definitely had a rough start in life, but these days he is settling into a much better chapter.

Connor is now living his best little dragon life in a bioactive enclosure, with a freshly foraged diet, plenty of superworms, and lots of love. 🥹

So far, nasturtium seems to be a favorite, but he’s also very fond of clover and Johnny jump-ups. 🌿🌸

And for a creature who looks prehistoric, Connor is an absolute cuddle bug. He is incredibly sweet and loves hanging out with his people.

We’re so excited to watch him continue to settle in, explore his new setup, and hopefully thrive with the care, diet, and environment he deserves. 💚

Another little local maker appreciation post because I could not resist this pairing. 🐄💙

Shout out to Elmhurst Pottery for this unbelievably sweet cow mug!

The moment I saw it, I knew I had to set our cow zippered pouches next to it for a photo.

This is probably the cutest mlem I have ever seen!

Fast asleep, comfy as can be, with one paw over his eyes and his little tongue sticking out. 😂

Those tiny tongue folds get me every single time. I don’t know how something so simple can be so ridiculously cute, but they make me smile every time I see them. 🥹❤️

Being this adorable is exhausting work.
