🚨 NATURE IS AN ARCHITECT (AND A LITTLE BIT UNHINGED) 🚨
​Look what happens when you leave a swarm trap out just a wee bit too long... 🫣🐝
​I went to check on a swarm trap today, expecting maybe a few frames of fresh comb. Instead, I found that the girls moved in, looked at the perfectly straight foundation I provided, and said: "Nah, we’re going rogue."
​They built this absolute masterpiece of chaotic, free-form, architectural madness. It’s breathtaking, it’s beautiful... and it is always fun to cut out and transfer to a real hive box. 😅
​A quick lesson in bee behavior for my non-beekeeper friends:
When bees are in "swarm mode," their wax glands are working overtime. They are biologically hardwired to build, build, build to establish their new home as fast as possible. If you don't give them frames right away, they will just follow the contours of whatever space they have—creating these wild, wavy "burr combs."
​Beekeeper Status: Equal parts amazed by their engineering and stressed about the impending sticky cleanup. 🍯
