Granddaughter Katy Shead came to help with dehydrating vegetables for the nutritious Naturally Farm Grown - All Purpose VEGGIE POWDER (mix of 10 vegetables).

This extremely concentrated VEGETABLE POWDER can be inserted in any recipe including: cakes, cookies, breads, pastries, peanut butter sandwiches, milk shakes, salads, puddings, smoothies, casseroles, meat, eggs and ANY RECIPE!

I’m ask how much to use?
Use just the same as you do salt.
If the recipe calls for one tsp salt, then ALSO add one teaspoon of SHEAD FARM All Purpose VEGGIE POWDER!

This is a great way to help give your family the daily recommended 3-4 cups of vegetable a day of nutritious vegetables grown in chemical-free rich compost soil.

Got some cucumber from a friend, so…

Tis the season to be pickling🥒!
La la la la la la la !

Now we wash, dice, and slice,
Adding vinegar and the spice!

In boiling water 💦 the jars must go
For pickles to keep and to show.

Hungry mouths will beg for more!
So in the cellar I will store!

THE GARDENER’S TEST

The days may be very hot,
And air conditioning truly sought.

W**ds will continue to grow
As insects to gardens flow.

It’s time for a GARDENER’S TEST…
Definitely not time to rest.

So each day take a garden stroll,
Or w**ds and bugs will take their toll,

Harvest needs gathered everyday
Or insects will have their own way.

W**d seeds will try to scatter.
So pulling each w**d does matter.

So gardener friends be not weary
But be encouraged and don’t tarry!

Pick your produce with delight
Healthy meals are in your sight.

It is a lot of work that is true
But feeds your family, so please do.

By now you know I’m not a poet
And I know it…
So I’d better quit.

We want to thank everyone who has helped support the SHEAD FARM HOMESTEAD FESTIVAL over the last 6 years. Without all of you, we wouldn't have been successful in creating such a wonderful, educational family event enjoyed by all ages. It has really been incredible how we all have joined together each year and formed a team…like a big family…working together to make it happen. Thank you.

This coming year (2027), we face a giant dilemma as we are beginning a new phase of our grandchildren who are growing, graduating, getting married, going to college, etc. As you know, our grandchildren have been a huge part of what we do here on the farm. From helping plant, to repairs, to everything in between, our grandchildren have helped make this farm what it is.

Next spring on the date that would have been our May 22, 2027, SHEAD FARM HOMESTEAD FESTIVAL (always the weekend before Memorial Day weekend), two of our grandchildren are graduating and our family desires to attend their graduation.

We’ve been asked to change the date but that is impossible as any earlier date would not have time for the gardens to be developed enough and then later would run into Memorial weekend and the next weekend would be Good Old Days.

After praying about what to do, we realized that 2027 will be our “seventh” festival! It seems fitting that we should take a “Sabbath” and rest next year from our festival.

This will give us a year to evaluate, do some much needed work on the farm, and get a clearer vision of what God wants to do in the future. At this time, we plan to be back in 2028!

When not traveling for grandkids' activities, we will be right here on the farm living our sustainable life. We will continue to post tips, host classes, do fun things, and will keep you up-to-date on life, so I hope you'll continue to follow our page.

Please know that we love and appreciate all of you. Come by and say hello, purchase VEGGIE POWDER, and comment on our posts so we know you're still there. It's hard for my big idea brain to put the festival aside, but I know it's what we're supposed to do this season.

When grandkids come they love to earn money by being my PEST CONTROL TEAM! A PENNY per worm, a DIME per small grasshopper, leaf with eggs, potato bug, white cabbage moth, etc., and QUARTER for tomato moth and large tomato worm, etc. It is a great way for them to earn money and a great way to control insects in SHEAD FARM GARDENS AND GREENHOUSE!
