Submissions are closing in just 4 days for the 2026 Andrea Niehoff Goodson Volunteer of the Year Award! ❤️

Each year, Main Street Hanover and the Christmas in Hanover Committee honor an outstanding volunteer who embodies the spirit of service, dedication, and community pride that Andrea shared with Hanover throughout her life.

Andrea Niehoff Goodson was Hanover’s top community cheerleader and Santa’s best elf. Her leadership helped transform Christmas in Hanover into a beloved holiday tradition, preserving cherished experiences like the 85-year-old Santa Cabin and the annual Christmas Parade. This award continues her legacy by celebrating those who go above and beyond to make Hanover a better place.

Raise your steins and bring your appetites for September's 2nd Saturday event: Oktoberfest - a Taste of Germany!

🕛 Saturday, September 12th | 11:00 - 4:00 PM

🥨 Activities Schedule: 🥨

- 10:00am – 2:00pm: Co****le Tournament hosted by the Hanover Borough Parks & Recreation Department
- 11:00am – 2:00pm: Oktoberfest Food Stroll
- 11:00am – 2:00pm: Live music from the Blaskapelle Shippensburg German Band in Center Square (Please bring your own lawn chairs to enjoy the music under the tent)
- 12:00pm – 1:30pm: Enjoy face painting for a donation, with all proceeds supporting Main Street Hanover
- 2:30pm: Beer Stein Hoisting Competition in Center Square – Host is improviser, producer and writer Brian Shea!
- 3:00pm: Oktoberfest themed trivia in Center Square – Host is improviser, producer and writer Brian Shea!

What a year for downtown Hanover! From supporting new businesses to creating events, investing in beautification, and promoting Hanover far beyond York County, we’re proud of what we accomplished together.

Here are just a few highlights from July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026:

🏪 15 new businesses opened downtown
👥 17,647+ visitors attended downtown events
🙌 762+ volunteer hours, valued at $24,244.85
🌱 26 beautification grants awarded, totaling $6,476.54
🦸 25 Hometown Hero Banners installed
🗑️ 512 gallons of trash collected through downtown cleanups
📣 252,076 accounts reached through social media advertising
👀 500,140 social media impressions
📧 1,500+ e-newsletter subscribers
🎥 $12,000 invested in downtown through our Video Reel Marketing Grant
💰 $84,977.33 invested in downtown through the Google Ad Grant Program

Us at Main Street Hanover had a wonderful time participating in Bloom's Business Walk! 🌳

⭐ The walk was to help spread awareness about two small business grant opportunities. Whether you’re looking to upgrade your business operations or enhance your storefront, these programs provide valuable resources to help local businesses thrive.

There is currently one opportunity still accepting submissions, and that is the York County Trail Towns Façade Grant 🌱

⭐ Here, businesses and nonprofit organizations located within designated York County Trail Towns, including eligible properties in Downtown Hanover, can apply for funding to improve their building exteriors.

⭐ This program offers grants up to $10,000 for eligible façade improvements, including:

🏢 Exterior painting
🏢 Masonry, siding & stucco repairs
🏢 Window and door improvements
🏢 Signage, lighting & awnings
🏢 ADA accessibility improvements

📅 Key Dates:
• Applications Open: July 10, 2026
• Application Deadline: August 31, 2026
• Awards Announced: By October 31, 2026

Think you've got the strength to outlast the competition? Put your endurance to the test in our Beer Stein Hoisting Competition! Contestants will compete to see who can hold a full 1-liter beer stein with a straight arm for the longest time. Last person standing wins!

🍻Competition Details:

Check-In: Begins at 2:00 PM
Competition Starts: 2:30 PM (promptly)
Registration Fee: $25 per person
Eligibility: Participants must be 21 years of age or older with valid ID.

🌳Join us in making Downtown Hanover a cleaner, more beautiful place for everyone to enjoy! 🌳

🌍Our monthly Downtown Cleanup for September will take place on the United Way Day of Caring in collaboration with United Way Day of York County! Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or joining us for the first time, your help makes a big impact.

📅September 18th
🕛 9:00am – 11:00am

What You Can Expect:

⭐Materials Provided: Gloves, safety vests, and trash bags will be given to all volunteers. Feel free to bring your own gloves or tools if preferred.
⭐Clothing: Please dress comfortably and wear close-toed shoes. Cleanups will take place rain or shine, so check the weather and dress accordingly.
⭐Tasks: May include picking up litter, weeding, and sweeping sidewalks.
