In Jamaica, before the world put dreadlocks on magazine covers and runways, wearing them could get you arrested. 🔥

During the 1950s and 1960s, Rastafari brethren were routinely stopped, beaten, jailed, and forcibly shaved by Jamaican police. Their locks were called "dirty." Their faith was called dangerous. The government feared what they represented: a Black man who bowed to no colonial authority, who looked to Africa, and who refused to be invisible. They were criminalised for their crown.
