Rain catchment is standard in every new home built in Australia.
EVERY NEW HOME!
So why are American builders still treating it like a luxury upgrade?
If you’re purchasing or building right now this is the conversation worth having with your contractor.
Not the countertops.
Not the “smart” thermostat.
The water!

Here’s where I’ll be honest with you: my home came with in-ground irrigation. I ran a native plant nursery out of my property for four years.
Never touched it. Not once. It’s actually torn up mostly now because we planted trees.

Irrigation systems regardless of how “efficient” the settings are designed for the wrong plants and the wrong mindset.
I’ve always hand-watered everything.
Every single time.
What I actually want now?
A few of these slim-profile rain barrels tucked under the eaves.
Quiet. Functional.
Working with the sky instead of the in ground resources.

My next major renovation is a new roof with gutters and integrated rain catchment.
I’ve been planning it for a while and honestly, I can’t wait! Not just for the water savings, but because it’s the right thing to do.
Water scarcity isn’t a future problem in South Texas. It’s right now.
The choices we make now matter NOW.
Build smarter. Catch the rain!💧
