Yes, rabbits cool themselves primarily through their ears! Because they cannot sweat or pant effectively like other animals, their ears act as natural radiators. How the Cooling Process WorksBlood Flow: A rabbit’s ears contain an extensive network of blood vessels. When the rabbit gets too warm, these vessels expand to push excess body heat into the ears.Heat Release: As cooler air passes over the thin skin of the ears, the radiating heat is carried away, cooling the circulating blood before it returns to the rest of the body.Temperature Extremes: Temperatures above 77°F (25°C) can be dangerous, as rabbits are highly susceptible to heatstroke.Helping Your Rabbit Stay CoolIf you are trying to help your rabbit cool down, it is important to focus on the ears and the environment:Misting: You can lightly mist their ears with cool water, as the resulting evaporation accelerates the natural cooling process.Airflow: Provide a circulating fan near the enclosure to improve air movement across their ears, but ensure the fan is not blowing directly on them at all times.Chilled Surfaces: Give them frozen water bottles wrapped in a towel or a ceramic tile to lie against.Grooming: For long-haired breeds, a safe trim can help shed excess fur.Environment: Keep them out of direct sunlight and in an air-conditioned room if possible.

Some people dont agree with me talking about certain breeds that should not be kept outdoors or even breeds that can be kept outdoors but should not be pregnant in temperatures above 85 degrees and thats ok . Im not talking about this subject because its about you or against you im talking about this subject because its summer time ... If you are raising floppy ear rabbits outside and your willing to stand outside all day yourself in this heat with a jacket and ear muffs on all day then good job , if not do your research on how Rabbits cool their self via their ears . That's all . Hope everyone and their bunnies stay safe in this heat . Even people that raise Tamuk rabbits the #1 one recommend out door heat tolerant breed per Texas A&M are losing their rabbits by big numbers. Just do your research on keeping rabbits safe in this heat . I haven't lost a rex in five years to heat so it is a great breed for outdoors in my opinion. Short hair and ears up 🤗
