Finca Tres Robles Connecting People 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 Place 🌏 & Food 🥬 through a Culture of Health ❤️ and Community🤝 in 2nd Ward!

Finca Tres Robles nurtures a culture of health in Houston’s East End to renew the bond between people, place and food. We have developed our farm as essential health infrastructure to upend systemic inequalities at the neighborhood level. We invest in small solutions as the pathway to realizing larger structural change. Finca Tres Robles was started in 2014 on a 1.25 acre lot on Houston’s East Side just 4 miles from Houston’s City Hall where we have been growing organic herbs, fruits, and vegetables to be sold to families and individuals directly from our farm. While this produce will not only be convenient, healthy and accessible to individuals in the area, we are working to make it affordable to the immediate 2nd Ward community as a way to begin to challenge the food system of the neighborhood, to build relationships, and to keep money here in our immediate, local economy. Finca Tres Robles is operated by Small Places, a nonprofit dedicated to cultivating community health through urban farming, and is the first urban farm in our vision of a network of community farms in Houston.

It's week 2 of our Fall CSA and we've got another recipe lined up for you. This week, we are making Agua de Pepino! This recipe utilizes the cucumbers included in everyone’s CSA box. While we know this is often thought of as a summer beverage, cucumbers are in season and this is Houston—it’s still hot!

For those not part of our CSA, you can find cucumbers in our farm store to make this recipe at home.

She previously worked with us on a contract base, but now we have her expertise with us full-time. Robin researches, writes, and submits grants to secure the ever-needed funding to keep our mission thriving. Help us send a warm welcome to Robin! 🌱💙

Le preguntamos a Mariah, la gerente de la granja, cuál es su verdura favorita de las que estamos cosechando ahora mismo, ¡y dijo que es misome!! Le encanta en ensaladas y en sopa ramen. 🥬

La misome es una verdura de hoja verde y consistente, similar a la espinaca. ¡Queda deliciosa salteada, en ensalada o como acompañamiento para tacos! Encuéntrala esta semana en la tienda de la granja.

We asked Farm Manager, Mariah, what her favorite veggie we are harvesting right now is and she said, Misome! She enjoys it in salads and in ramen soup. 🥬

Misome is a hearty green that is similar to a spinach. Great sautéed, enjoyed in a salad, or topping tacos! Find it in the farm store this week.

Our first week of Fall CSA is here! Every box is the product of a lot of worry and care. It’s the product of weeks and months of our farm team planning and planting; weeding and tweaking.
