Join us this evening, May 20th for a vibrant, hands-on cooking workshop celebrating the unique flavor, versatility, and nourishing benefits of spinach!

Chef Joe will lead a live cooking demo, guiding participants through simple, chef-level techniques for prepping, sautéing, wilting, and balancing spinach’s tender texture and earthy flavor in delicious, approachable ways—from savory and comforting to bright and fresh.

Chef Devyn, our Farmer Liaison and seasonal produce expert, will walk you through the world of spinach—from baby spinach to mature bunches. You’ll learn how to select the freshest greens, store them properly, and understand how their flavor and texture transform with different cooking methods.

Miss Leah, our Registered Dietitian, will share the powerful nutritional benefits of spinach, including how it supports iron intake, bone health, and overall wellness—and practical ways to incorporate it into balanced, family-friendly meals.

What to Expect:
- Hands-on cooking demo
- Spinach variety walk-through + tasting
- Knife skills and prep techniques
- Nutrition guidance from our in-house dietitian
- Take-home recipe packet with 3 chef-developed spinach dishes

This workshop is open to adults and families—perfect for anyone curious about seasonal produce, looking to build kitchen confidence, or ready to discover spinach in a whole new way.

Come cook, taste, and learn with us!

🍎 WEST VIRGINIA SCHOOL NUTRITION FRIDAY FACT 🍎

More than 25 MILLION school breakfasts are served in West Virginia schools each year!

Every breakfast tray represents more than a meal — it helps fuel learning, focus, attendance, and student success.

Students who eat school breakfast have been shown to achieve 17.5% higher scores on standardized math tests and attend 1.5 more days of school per year.

School nutrition professionals across West Virginia work hard every morning to ensure students begin the day ready to learn.

Because healthy students are better prepared to succeed!

💙 School Meals = School Smiles 💛

We love seeing young people gather around the table to cook, learn, and build confidence together!

Project Healthy Kids is proud to partner with Fairfield U through Project Healthy Plate to create hands-on culinary experiences that connect students with healthy food, practical kitchen skills, and each other.

These workshops are about more than cooking. They’re about teamwork, creativity, wellness, and helping young people feel empowered in the kitchen and beyond.

A huge thank you to the Fairfield U team for joining us and investing in opportunities that make healthy food fun, accessible, and meaningful for students. We’re already looking forward to the next Project Healthy Plate workshop on 6/3!

Last week Project Healthy Kids had the privilege of being a small part of an amazing event with MU Early Education STEAM Center…

The Marks We Make: Traces of Learning, Wonder, and Play

A wonderful exhibit of beautiful, powerful, important work created by the tiniest of hands at MU Early Education STEAM Center.

Art made from a variety of mediums, all with connections to deep exploration, discovery, and learning.

You could see and feel the wonder, joy, and unique perspectives of these small artists as you viewed each special piece of work this evening.

Our very own Miss Leah was on hand exploring Spring drinks to promote healthy ways to stay hydrated in the warmer weather by incorporating fresh fruits! 🍋🍓🫐
