May crew is starting to head to their new homes!

Today was Gandolf and Buttercup! ā€œShortā€ trip for them, ā€œonlyā€ across the river about an hour which is basically our neighbors šŸ˜‚

First intros went well with their one sister and I can’t wait for them to adjust and settle in to their new guardian rolls. Poultry and wildlife control as well as children in a very similar area to ours so lots of work to be done!

Happy trails you two!

Looking at these beautiful photos, I can’t believe how much work we’ve done. I should pull out some old photos and do a comparisonā¤ļø

Little Yellow as Rod calls him made it back from training. He stayed longer than I planned (due to our busy schedule) but it was worth it to it!

What amazing growth! Halters, leads, lounges, sacks out, soft ties, picks up his feet, loads and unloads. I’m very pleased! Even the hardened cowboy says he’s a nice c**t with a good head.

Now my turn not to mess him up 🤪 I’ve worked with him multiple times last night and today. Lots of new sights and sounds. He’s doing great!

So I have a new hack for all of us big strong dog owners. Gandolf’s previous home turned me onto these things and they have been so helpful.

I can’t tell you how many people bring their dogs to me, especially pet dogs in harnesses and each time, I inwardly roll my eyes because I know they’re not going to respect me on a lead because traditional harnesses just teach a dog to pull.

You’ve got the harness on the strongest part of the dogā€˜s body and it just encourage them to pull you around like a sled dog.šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’ØšŸ„“

So when she showed up with Gandolf in a harness, I had my normal reaction but when I got up closer to her and saw what she had, it peaked my interest. But I’ll be honest I had very low expectations.

However, I figured it was a great way to have my ā€œemergency brakeā€ for my second leash while walking new dogs. For those of you who don’t know what I mean, when we get new dogs and we’re worried about them taking off and never seeing them again I always walk with a second lead in case they chew through one while learning how to walk on a leash or whatever the case maybe. Always have a back up!

So I started using it like that, and I found that on the big dogs or Little that struggled on a leash and wanted to pull even with a slip lead a gentle pull on this harness that tightens around their entire body slowed them down and made them not pull at all or very little.

Just like a slip lead if they pull all the ropes tighten making it so they can’t slip out out of it, unlike a traditional harness or collar. And because it tightens under their belly, which is something that is different for them, it makes them slow down and think.

Similar to a slip lead it also releases when they stop pulling. It is now my new favorite lead to walk some of these dogs in. So I figured I’m not a gatekeeper. I’m gonna share this wonderful new tool with all of you. ā¤ļøļæ¼ and no I don’t have any affiliate to this product. It’s just that coolšŸ˜‚ļæ¼

Another introduction.

This pair came to us about a week ago sorry for the delay🤪 it was a busy week.

I’d like to introduce Wolf And Buttercup to everybody. Wolf is actually Red’s brother! He was the runt of the litter if you can believe it, he’s almost as big as Red. The sweet boy is also purebred Anatolian. He is four years old and he has spent his time guarding Sheep. He hadn’t been around poultry until he came here and he has been doing wonderful with them. He could absolutely care less from the highline. They share his water. They bother him while he’s eating and he has had no issues with any of that.

He is higher on the totem pole and will have no problem standing up to or fighting with a dog who challenges him. That being said, he has been introduced to multiple males on our property and done just fine. But will not be replacing him with an alpha or want to be dominant male.

ļæ¼ I would like to keep him with a partner whether it is from our program or an existing dog on another property. He’s a very sweet boy loves attention as well with the livestock and now poultry.

His previous partner, Buttercup is most likely already spoken for we will know on Thursday.ļæ¼ Buttercup is also a purebred Anatolian and has done pretty well with ghosts and Sheep though she’s still needs some supervision. She has not done anything really bad. She just is extra curious about the babies which is fair since she had never been around them before. She did however, respond really well to a training collar and has since given them all a wide birth.

She was raised in a home with small children and poultry, and is now working on our poultry line to make sure that that all is still good.

For those of you that you don’t know, we are located in Northeast Washington. North of Spokane by about three hours. We do help with transportation and pick up is also available.

If you are interested in Wolfļæ¼ or have any other questions, please feel free to reach out.

ļæ¼ We would like to introduce Baby to ļæ¼everyone.
She is a five month old Great Pyrenees, Anatolian cross ļæ¼ she’s obviously intact and should stay that way for at least another year to a year and a half.

She was picked up at a local animal swap by the family that surrendered her, and they got her fully vaccinated and up-to-date on flea and tick meds. But realize that they were in over their head and so reached out to us.

She’s doing really well for a young dog in a new situation. She came to us without any leash training or highline training and she’s already doing wonderful on both and she just came yesterday evening.ā¤ļøļæ¼

She’s going to be a blank slate for somebody we will be introducing her to poultry, Sheep, goats and other dogs. She’s a very sweet dog and I’m excited to find her perfect placementā¤ļø

Due to her age I would like to pair her with a partner either from our program or for somebody looking for a partner for another dog they have.

In my experience, a young dog and really all dogs do much better with a partner. They packed animals and especially at this age where they have a lot of playful energy. It is always best to give them inappropriate playmate to help avoid playing with livestock.

Let’s talk about Miss Sierra!

We introduced her a few weeks ago, she is a 4 yo spayed GP who came to us from a pet home. They were going to be evicted if they didn’t find her a home.

She has some vision issues that are currently undiagnosed. We did have her seen at a clinic, but other than telling us that she was not in pain that’s as far as they could get us.

She is doing well outside full-time with the goats and Sheep. She did well around the poultry, but she definitely likes people.

She would do well on an acreage with people and maybe some animals that need cared for and protected, but not necessarily a full-time livestock guardian dog.

So far she’s gotten along with all the other dogs. She’s been introduced to males and females. The only struggle that we’ve had with her is that when she is in low light, she struggles to see and can become an anxious and a little bit snappy and growling. From what I’ve seen it’s due to not feeling comfortable because she can’t see well in those situations because anytime she’s in good lighting. She does not have that same reaction.

We are looking for a special placement for her. Somebody who is willing to put the time and money into working on her eye issues and only needs more of a farm and family guard than a livestock guardian dog. As it’s unfair to be asking her to guard at night due to her vision issues at this point. That might change once she is diagnosed, but that’s the placement we are going to be looking for.

Due to that her adoption fee will be all but waived. That being said it is not necessarily for somebody who doesn’t have the funds to adopt a dog because she will need vet care in the meantime, while working out what her vision issue is.

So with all that being said, if you think that you might be interested in Sierra, I would love to talk to you or if you know somebody else that might be feel free to send them our way.

Located in north eastern Washington three hours north of Spokane transportation is available for a fee.

And we stand behind every dog place meaning if she’s not a good fit for you, she can come back.ā¤ļø

Well we did it! Photography is done and should be listed by the end of the month! šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’ØšŸ˜šŸ™Œ

Our home was legit clean for 36 hours! New world record for a farm house with 10 people living in it (some visiting) how did it happen? Lots of help!

My sister spent Thursday prepping meals for that day and the next and then she and her husband took our kids to camp at the beach šŸ™Œ. So no cooking and only cleaning until the photo shoot.

It looked great. So excited to see how the drone footage turns out! We are enjoying some family down time and headed to the lakes now!

I’ll be back to business tomorrow! Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone.
