Meet Ari.
A 21 month old Anatolian female looking for a new placement. She is currently located in Addy, Wa.
She is currently unaltered in the plan had been to Spay her at two years old. They are still waiting on her second heat cycle. I have asked them to keep an eye out for a Spay And Neuter clinic in their area so this could change, but is not guaranteed to change.
She is working as a single and has picked up some sneaky behaviors. When she originally came through our program as a pup she was super sweet, lower to middle of the pack and went to be partnered with an older male and did Fantastic! But the original owner ended up in a divorce and moving away from farming and when she came back I was super impressed with how she was doing with the livestock and placed her in a home where she was to be living full time with sheep.
Unfortunately I think she is bored and loanely and starting to “play” with and now hurt lambs😔
The family has tried to correct it but unfortunately she is smart and sneaky and so she never does anything while being watched or even while they are out. They also contained her in the evenings but they are about to have another baby and after the 3rd incident they are realizing they aren’t doing her or themselves any favors and would like to find her a new placement.
We feel she would do better as a perimeter dog or with a solid adult partner to help keep her appropriately busy and not trying to play with the livestock. She doesn’t have much poultry experience but she can see them.
Great with children and knows how to be with the sheep but without a partner is choosing inappropriate behavior not all the time but enough that they don’t want to keep dealing with it. Which I understand.
I truly believe this dog has great potential with a solid partner to play with. I don’t think she would be a good mentor at this point but if she was more of a perimeter dog guarding outside of the livestock pens she could potentially mentor a younger dog.
