Today is Tuesday April 21st. A quick update from Bellamy Grove. 105 honeybell trees were planted 3 weeks ago, along with taking out many trees that were unproductive from the citrus greening disease. Today I ordered the vegetable seeds for the greenhouse grower to sow in trays in July and August. These will be the vegetable plants I will plant in September and October in the u-pick field. In two weeks my first deposit will be needed to secure the strawberry plants needed for next season. And next week the plan is to plant a cover crop on the u-pick field. Just when you think you got things cleaned up and organized, plans are being made for the next season. The picture below is the hedging machine that came in and cut back the orange trees on the south side of the road. They were hurt from the freeze in February. Even though not all of the dead wood was cut out, it will help in cleaning up some of it anyway. Thanks, Chuck.

Its Tuesday February 24th. The u-pick field at Bellamy Grove is closed for the season. From time to time I will give updates at what's going on at the grove. Right now I plan on taking out some oranges trees that were becoming unproductive and planting new ones. Even though the freeze damaged some trees, the plan was to replant even before the freezes. I had secured the new trees back in August. We plan on keeping on with doing u-pick strawberries next season, even though we had to close early do to the weather. Actually planning on adding a few more beds of strawberries. Thank you to all who leave the messages and comments about coming out to the field. It's appreciated. Thanks, Chuck.

Today is February 17th. The u-pick field at Bellamy Grove will be open this Friday and Saturday ONLY. February 20and 21st. From 9-4 each day. We only have vegetables for sale. Those are brussel sprouts, 2.00 a stalk, cabbage 2.00 each, and sweet onions 2.00 each. U-pick collards and kale are still available. This will be the LAST WEEKEND I will be open for the season, so please take note if you want any of these vegetables. All sales are cash only. With the strawberries being effected from the freeze, there are other u-pick farms in the area that made it through better than I did. They are Masaryk Winery and Upick topia in Masaryktown, and JG Ranch in Brooksville. We all know each other and stay in touch with what's going on with our berries. We get our berry plants from the same nursery, so if you go to do u-pick they have the same variety I do. You can get more info from their page. My location for the vegetables is 8400 E. Moccasin Slough Rd. Inverness Fl. Just follow the signs to the back of the property where there is plenty of parking. Thanks, Chuck.

Its Tuesday February 10th. The u-pick field at Bellamy Grove will be open this weekend on Friday and Saturday ONLY, February 13th and 14th. With last weeks freeze event there will be no strawberries the rest of the season. The short story is I don't have enough water volume to water the grove and strawberries at the same time for cold protection. So I took my chances with a smaller pump and hoped for the best. With it being 22 degrees and the wind whipping the way it was it just wasn't enough. It's just the way it goes. So, moving on, I still have some vegetables to sell for a couple of weeks. Brussel sprouts will be available along with sweet onions and cabbage. Prices will vary according to size. Cabbages will be 2-3 dollars. Sweet Onions 1-2 dollars. And brussel sprouts 2-3 dollars. These vegetables will be already picked and at the stand. U-pick collards and kale are still going. Price is still 2.00 a pound. All sales are cash only. There will be no strawberry sign on the driveway, obviously, only arrow signs. Those of you who are regulars know what driveway it is. We will be open 9-4 each day. The location for the field is 8400 E. Moccasin Slough Rd. Inverness, Fl. Just follow the signs to the back of the property where there is plenty of parking. Thanks, Chuck.

Good evening it's February 3rd. The u-pick field at Bellamy Grove will be CLOSED this upcoming weekend. As we all know we have had a serious freeze event a few days ago. Over the last 24 hrs l have been deciding what to do going forward with the u-pick. The citrus trees and strawberries have been effected by the freeze and it takes a few days to evaluate the potential damage that has been done. In the state of Florida It doesn't matter if you grow tropical fish or ferns we are all dealing with some degree of loss. I have been in touch with growers that I know from Ruskin to Umatilla during the day and night and we are all tired, and trying to see what is what. I think i can give you a better idea of what I will be doing early next week. The stories I have heard about what happened to other growers would amaze you at there resiliency. Don't worry. This is just a set back. I'm not giving up. Talk to you next week. Thanks, Chuck.

Its Tuesday, January 27th. The u-pick field at Bellamy Grove will be open DIFFERENT days this week. Because of the freezing temperatures this weekend, will be open THURSDAY,FRIDAY, ONLY January 29,30. Preparations need to be made for the cold weather. Hours are from 9-4. Surprisingly, there is a good supply of strawberries in the field to be picked with all the crazy weather we have been having. The price for u-pick is 3.50 a pound. Collard and kale are u-pick for 2.00 a pound. The citrus fruit available this week are hamlin oranges. They are 5.00 a quarter bushel. This will be the last week for oranges for the season. I'm running out, and it's just as well. If it gets as cold as they are predicting the oranges would freeze anyway. A few bell pepper are left for the season. They will be 3 for 2.00. Sweet onions are 2.00 each. And cabbage will be 3.00 each. All sales are cash only. The address for the field is 8400 E. Moccasin Slough Rd. Inverness, Fl. Just follow the signs to the back of the property where there is plenty of parking. Thanks,Chuck.

Good evening, it's Wednesday January 21st. The u-pick field at Bellamy Grove will be open this Friday,Saturday, and Sunday. January 23,24,25. From 9-4 each day. As you can imagine, there won't be as many strawberries this weekend because of the cold weather this past week . I got through with hardly any damage, but the ripening has slowed somewhat. But, there will be a fair amount for the weekend. The price is 3.50 a pound for u-pick. The oranges this week are honeybells and hamlin oranges. The honeybells are 18.00 a quarter bushel and the hamlins are 5.00 a quarter bushel. This will be the last weekend for the honeybells. The oranges are already picked and in bins at the stand. The collards, kale, and mustard greens are ready for u-pick, and are 2.00 a pound. The quality is starting to dip on the mustards, so this could be the last weekend for those. We still have plenty of sweet onions. Those are 2.00 each. And cabbage for 3.00 each. Bell peppers are 3 for 2.00. All sales are cash only. With no bad luck I should be open for another 8 weeks. The address for the field is 8400 E. Moccasin Slough Rd. Inverness, Fl. Just follow the signs to the back of the property where there is plenty of parking. Thanks, Chuck.

Its Wednesday, January 14th. The u-pick field at Bellamy Grove will be open this Friday,Saturday, and Sunday. January 16,17,18, from 9-4 each day. There is a lot of strawberries that can be picked this weekend. If your interested in getting large amounts for making jams or to put in the freezer now is the time. Unfortunately it happens to be on a cold weekend. We made preparations today by covering the field with frost cloth. If you come out Friday or Saturday to pick, which should be the coldest mornings, don't come out too early to pick to give us time to move the cloth off the plants. The berries should be fine under the cloth during the night. The price for u-pick is 3.50 a pound. The citrus fruit this week are honeybells and hamlins. This could be the last weekend for the honeybells, but definatly the following weekend , depending on sales. They are 18.00 a quarter bushel and the hamlins are 5.00 a quarter bushel. The big sweet onions are ready now and are 2.00 each. Cabbages are ready also and will be 3.00 each. They average 3 pounds each. The collards, kale, and mustard greens are still available. Those are u-pick for 2.00 a pound. Bell peppers are at the stand for 75 cents each. All sales are cash only. It's been a crazy week trying to get everything picked and making cold preparations. The address for the field is 8400 E. Moccasin Slough Rd. Inverness, Fl. Just follow the signs to the back of the property where there is plenty of parking. Thanks, Chuck.

Good evening. This is my weekly update on the u-pick field at Bellamy Grove. We will be open this Friday,Saturday,Sunday. January 9,10,11. From 9-4 each day. The strawberries are starting to get a little more plentiful. Had minimal damage from the freeze last week. Only lost a few blooms here and there, but overall things are going in the right direction. The price for u-pick is 3.50 a pound. The greens are still going strong. Collard, kale, and mustard are u-pick for 2.00 a pound. The mustards will be the first to play out in a few weeks so keep that in mind if those are what you like. The oranges this week are honeybells and hamlins. The honeybells are 18.00 a quarter bushel and the hamlins are 5.00 a quarter bushel. They have already been picked and are in bins at the stand. We pick fresh oranges each week, but sometimes I have some left over from the previous week. So on the weekends I have those I will sell those at a discount price to move them out. The broccoli is coming to an end. Will probably only last for Fridays business day. I will have new vegetable varieties next week, and will have them in next weeks post. Bell peppers are at the stand, and are 75 cents each. A little key lime juice is still left. They are frozen and in 4oz containers. 4.00 each on those. All sales are cash only. The location for the field is 8400 E. Moccasin Slough Rd. Inverness, Fl. Just follow the signs to the back of the property where there is plenty of parking. Thanks, Chuck.

Today is the last day of 2025. Happy New Year to all of you. The u-pick field at Bellamy Grove will be open this Friday,Saturday,Sunday. January 2,3,4. From 9-4 each day. The strawberries are just now starting to get a little more plentiful. The cooler weather this week has slowed them down a little, but not too bad. They are 3.50 a pound for u-pick. The oranges that will be available this week are honeybells and hamlin oranges. Honeybells are 18.00 a quarter bushel and the hamlins are 5.00 a quarter bushel. They have already been picked and are in bins at the stand for pick up. The greens that are ready this week are collard, kale, and mustard. The u-pick price on those are 2.00 a pound. We have the bags and the clippers to do the job. I still have some broccoli, but not as many as before . I made some later plantings than usual, and the broccoli hasn't sized up like other plantings . So broccoli this week will be 2.00 each or 6 for 10.00. Depending on sales, this could be last week for broccoli. We have plenty of bell peppers at the stand for 75 cents each. All sales are cash only. Key lime juice is 4.00 each and are frozen in 4oz containers. Getting down on quantity on the lime juice, so if you want any, now is the time. The harvesting company showed up this week to start picking my fruit to send to the juice plant in Auburndale. Here's a picture of the first trailer to go out. Just to give you an idea at how much fruit that is. That is 600 boxes of oranges. Each box weighs 90 pounds. That's 54,000 pounds of oranges, not counting the weight of the trailer. The location for the field is 8400 E. Moccasin Slough Rd. Inverness, Fl. Just follow the signs to the back of the property where there is plenty of parking. Thanks, Chuck.

Its Friday December 26. This update is to let you know we are basically picked out of strawberries for the weekend. I will still be open Saturday and Sunday for oranges and vegetables. Just wanted to let you know if you were expecting strawberries the rest of the weekend. I only have 1 acre of strawberries, and with more people finding me, it's not hard to run out after a day or two. Might have to plant more next year! Sorry for any inconvenience if you had plans to come out.
