Getting ready! Just put down the plastic mulch for the strawberries and winter vegetables. You can tell by the one picture, I have to hill up the soil to have enough soil for the plastic machine to work properly and get a nice bed. The first planting of vegetables will go in September 19th. And the strawberries the very end of September. Just wanted to touch base with what is going on. More frequent updates will be posted as planting gets closer and of course when you can expect the upick field to open. Thanks, Chuck.

Just a summertime update from Bellamy Grove. Hard to believe in two months I will be putting down plastic for the vegetables and strawberries. Talked to the strawberry nursery today, and they said the new plants they have growing are the best they have had in several years. Hopefully that translates to good vigorous plants when they arrive. I will be taking the vegetable seeds to the greenhouse after the 4th to line up when to get them started and schedule the pickup dates in the fall. Been cleaning up the grove after the freeze when I can, and planting new trees. Looks like right now the hamlin juice orange crop will be about half of what it was last season. The navel crop looks better than last year if they continue to hold on the trees. The pictures are of the north end of the grove which went through the freeze fairy well. And the new honeybell trees planted recently with the bags on to protect them from the insects that move the greening disease around. They will be on 2-3 years depending on the growth of the tree. Today is Tuesday April 21st. A quick update from Bellamy Grove. 105 honeybell trees were planted 3 weeks ago, along with taking out many trees that were unproductive from the citrus greening disease. Today I ordered the vegetable seeds for the greenhouse grower to sow in trays in July and August. These will be the vegetable plants I will plant in September and October in the u-pick field. In two weeks my first deposit will be needed to secure the strawberry plants needed for next season. And next week the plan is to plant a cover crop on the u-pick field. Just when you think you got things cleaned up and organized, plans are being made for the next season. The picture below is the hedging machine that came in and cut back the orange trees on the south side of the road. They were hurt from the freeze in February. Even though not all of the dead wood was cut out, it will help in cleaning up some of it anyway. Thanks, Chuck.
