I’m so excited - and I just can’t hide it!! 🎶🎵You know the rest!! 😂
Next week exciting additions coming to the farm! Both are coming from Bit of Something Nigerian Goats.🐐🙌When we started our journey into registered goats we were pretty clueless. We didn’t have a real goal in mind so it was hard to build a herd to meet our goals. Were we looking for a show herd, a production herd, some combination of both, or what? We thought we wanted a combination herd, but what we quickly realized was that the “show quality” goats - even those with champion/grand champion pedigrees did not necessarily produce quality or quantity milk.🥛 We also quickly realized that when purchasing our goats - you really get what you pay for. We had bought what we thought we could afford - which were some nice goats. They looked good and had some good genetics, but pretty average production. As we began looking we found that there were some amazing genetics out there - goats that didn’t just look good, but really packed a punch in the production aspect. 💡💡That’s what we wanted!! It became clear we could buy several “good” goats and spend years trying to improve their production OR we could make the investment in one or two already proven goats.
So - where did we start? We scoured the Top Ten and Elite lists from AGDA and researched. We looked at breeding practices, performance, and accessibility. We not only wanted good genetics, we wanted to learn. We found Bit of Something from a friend and spent many months drooling. We entered a couple of raffles and crossed our fingers! 🤞 Then we made the decision to take a real step towards improving our herd. We placed a deposit on a doeling that hadn’t even been conceived yet! 😳😂 Scariest and most exciting thing. We waited and waited and a pregnancy was confirmed and then…..kids on the ground, and our new addition had arrived!!
We are so excited to formally introduce her next week when she (and another surprise) arrive!!
Finding a quality and reputable breeder with actual production data that was not only willing to share information but advice was THE BEST decision we ever made!! Thank you Amber for helping us improve!
