Well, about 8 or 9 years ago, Washington experienced a solar eclipse. It was a really cool experience we got to watch from home! That same day, while watching the eclipse, one little egg was hatched. Two broody hens had been on the same nest for awhile, with only one egg. It was hilarious. This lone chick grew into a beautiful rooster. He was also very docile, so we kept him and named him Eclipse (naturally). 😊 He was a good old boy, roamed freely and had the best life. And fathered many of our next generation. He passed away today. We knew the time was coming. And you might say, "he's just a chicken" but we all know.... if you name it, they become a pet! Haha. Honestly we are quite sad. But these things happen and we continue to give the best life to any critter that has the privilege of living with us. 💙🐔

We love summer days when our meals consist of home grown/local ingredients. 😊🤤🍽 Last night's supper was "breakfast". We enjoyed eggs from our backyard flock (They eat our feed, of course!), potatoes and onions, amazing bacon from Wild Plum Farm who's pigs eat our feed, and a delicious peach! (The sweet onion and peach were picked up from Front Porch Farm). Eating nutritious and eating local is soooo important to us and we love when we can do that.
