Today was all about learning the full circle of the black walnut 🌳🤎

The kids helped harvest, husk, and learn about this one little nut and all the ways it can be used—from the walnut itself for snacking and baking to the many uses of the husks.

It’s a lot of work, but there’s something so rewarding about teaching them that good things don’t always come easy. Sometimes you plant, wait, work, get your hands dirty, and eventually get to enjoy the fruits of it all.

In a few weeks, these will be naturally cured and ready for snacking, baking, and enjoying right from our own land. 🌿

Lots of work. Pays off in the end. 🤎

Our yard is a wreck from the kids using their imaginations, but I had to share my handsome boy, Conway. 😍

Every single morning he meets me out back & walks with me down to the coop. Every now and then, he’ll sit with me for coffee! ☕️🐓❤️

Something got his tail feathers a few weeks ago, but he’s still such a pretty boy to me! I’ve never loved a rooster the way I love him!

🌱 HELP US BUILD OUR HOMESTEAD🌱

We’ve had so much luck in the past simply sharing our needs here on Facebook, so we figured we’d try again! ❤️

As we continue working on our land and turning our little piece of property into the homestead we’ve dreamed about, we’re looking for some odds and ends to help us complete small projects around the farm. 🐓🌾

We’d love to give old, unused materials a new purpose rather than seeing them go to waste!

We’re currently looking for:

🔨 Old galvanized sheets of metal
🔨 T-posts that are no longer being used
🐇 Old rolls of rabbit wire/fencing
🪵 Scrap wood/lumber

🚨 AND A TRUE PRIZE FIND… 🚨
🛶 An old metal boat with no motor!

We’re talking completely unusable, been sitting around for years, “I have no idea what to do with this thing” kind of boat. 😂

No motor needed. Unusable is PERFECT! We’d just prefer one without holes. 😉

If you have something like this taking up space, we may be able to give it a whole new life here on the homestead!

FREE or LOW-COST is what we’re looking for! 🤎

And here’s the best part — you don’t have to haul it anywhere. If you’re in the area, we’ll come to you, load it up, and can even help clean up the area where you’ve had it stored!

We’re trying to be resourceful, save where we can, and give old materials a second life as we build our little homestead from the ground up. 🏡🌿

GOLDEN GLOW TALLOW IS BACK!✨

I’ve spent the last few days working on large batches of tallow. Before I stopped counting the bags, I was up to 30 pounds!

I’m so thankful for more energy, less nausea, and the motivation to get back to work! 💪

While I am so excited about this baby girl coming soon, the sickness that came with it was no walk in the park. 🥴

In the next few days, I’ll be restocking ALL skin care products!!🎉

I adore my guineas! ❤️

This creature is hands down the most chaotic animal on the farm 😂

Guineas originally come from Africa, where they roam around eating insects, seeds, weeds, snakes, ticks, and pretty much anything else they can fit in their little dinosaur mouths. Farmers love them because they’re excellent tick control, they sound the alarm whenever something unusual happens, and they’re hardy birds that don’t require a lot of special care.

Now let me tell you what the brochures leave out.

These birds are absolute jerks.

They spend their entire day screaming about things that don’t matter. A leaf blows across the yard? Emergency. A squirrel exists? Emergency. The mailman drives by three miles away? DEFCON 1.

They pick fights with chickens, harass the ducks, insult the dogs, will fight a whole grown human, and somehow manage to make every other animal on the farm question its life choices.

If one guinea decides to run across the road, the others will immediately follow without asking a single question. There is no leadership. There is no strategy. There is only chaos.

And yet…they’re oddly useful.

Our guineas eat ticks by the thousands, patrol the farm like tiny feathered security guards, and alert us to visitors long before anyone reaches the driveway. They’re terrible employees but excellent alarm systems.

So if you ever hear a loud, frantic racket coming from our farm, don’t worry. Nothing is wrong.

The guineas have simply spotted something suspicious.

Like a butterfly.

Or a cloud.

Or each other.
