Some exciting news from Rainbow Raccoon Ranch! ❤️

Stephanie was recently elected to the Board of Directors for The Livestock Conservancy.

It’s a pretty special blend of her professional and ranch worlds, bringing together her work in animal welfare with her passion for raising and preserving heritage breeds. The Livestock Conservancy works to protect endangered livestock and poultry breeds and the genetic diversity they represent.

Here at RRR, that mission hits close to home through breeds we raise like Scottish Highland cattle, Poitou donkeys, and other heritage livestock.

We’re excited to see Stephanie bring those worlds together in this new role.

Introducing another newly elected member of our Board of Directors: Stephanie Wetter.

Stephanie is the director of animal welfare for the National Pork Board, where she leads science-based efforts to advance animal care, producer education, and continuous improvement across the U.S. pork industry. Meet our full board with the link in the comments.

Well, the secret is starting to get out. 👀🐮

We’re excited to share that Rainbow Raccoon Ranch will be part of the 2027 Iowa Barn Foundation June Barn Tour in Calhoun County! Apparently, Delores is already working on her close ups 🤩🤳

We’ll share plenty more as we get closer. For now, enjoy that magnificent 80s hair. 🤘

Meet the Herd: Helen 🤎

If you’ve visited Rainbow Raccoon Ranch, you probably remember Helen…our one-horned Highland with a talent for finding trouble 😝

Helen was our very first Highland calf and our very first bottle baby. We were learning how to raise cattle, and thankfully she was patient with us while we figured it out. Six years later, she’s still teaching us a thing or two!

Being a bottle baby made Helen extra friendly and extra adventurous. She’s usually the first to test a fence, investigate something she shouldn’t, or somehow end up exactly where she isn’t supposed to be.

Her missing horn is part of what makes her so recognizable. Years ago, she cracked it by squeezing her head under gates in search of “greener grass.” The damaged horn eventually fell away, and she’s been perfectly happy with one horn ever since.

From this tiny bottle calf to the beautiful Highland she is today, Helen has been with us from the very beginning, and she’ll always hold a special place in our hearts. 🤎
