This year we weren’t going to plant a garden. Instead we were going to focus on the flower gardens around the Farmhouse.

And we did. We planted a lot of flowers. We have kept the flower beds weeded. They are in full bloom and just exactly what I hoped they would be for the first year.

But I couldn’t help myself. I filled two of the raised beds with tomatoes and peppers, then planted cucumbers next to one of the in-ground trellises.

And now we’re here. I picked all but three of those cucumbers today. We didn’t plant as many as usual and we still can’t eat them fast enough.

It’s been a very strange summer at Pea Pod Country. The only thing making it strange is the decision we made this spring to forego planting a vegetable garden.

Because there are not tomatoes to pick and process or cucumbers to pickle or weeds to pull, it’s been pretty quiet. Our evenings and weekends have been kind of lazy. Slightly boring to be honest.

Is this how life is for everyone else? People who don’t have a dozen projects going at the same time? I’m not sure but I suspect it is.

With nothing to else to do, I have had time to stand at my kitchen sink and watch this mama dove on her nest.

I’m not sure what happened to her mate. She’s very clearly on her own. And she hasn’t given up despite the scorching sun and soaking rains.

A few days ago she started acting differently and then we saw a little head pop up. Then there were two heads.

Today is the first day we’ve more of the oldest baby.

Mama you’re doing great. And while I think you should have picked a shadier nesting spot, we’ll leave you water and food as long as you’re here. ❤️❤️❤️

Candle or wax melt? Which is your preference?

This time of year I tend to switch to wax melts. And I think I do this because I'm up moving around more when I'm home and don't like to leave a candle burning unsupervised.
