One year.
August 18th marked one full year since we brought our very first little piglets to the farm.
We didn’t get a chance to post about it that day because we were busy moving lines and rotating pigs in 100° heat (which honestly feels pretty fitting for farm life!), but we couldn’t let the milestone pass without taking a minute to look back.
A year ago, we had three pigs and a whole lot of ideas. We were learning as we went, figuring things out one day at a time, and I don’t think we had any idea just how much this little farm would grow and change in only 12 short months.
Since then, three pigs have turned into an entire herd. We’ve added breeding stock, watched our first pork come back from the processor, filled freezers, launched a website, started selling at markets, delivered orders all over central Kentucky, added eggs, baked goods and pantry items, and somehow turned this little idea of ours into a real, growing farm business.
There have been plenty of long days, failed fences, escaped pigs, lessons learned the hard way and plans that changed about 100 times. But there have also been so many moments over the past year when we’ve stopped and thought, I can’t believe we’re actually doing this.
And the biggest reason we’ve been able to keep doing it is YOU ALL.
Every person who has bought pork from us, signed up for fresh egg subscriptions, stopped by our booth at a market, shared one of our posts, tagged a friend, recommended us to someone, left us a review, followed along with our animals, or simply hit “like” on something we posted—you have helped build this farm right alongside us.
And to the people who come back month after month and continue choosing our farm to help feed your families… there really aren’t words for how much that means to us.
So, from our family to yours, thank you for an incredible first year. ❤️
We have so many BIG plans for year two, and if the first year taught us anything, it’s that there’s really no telling where this thing might take us.
And since there’s no better way to celebrate a farm anniversary than by eating something raised right here on it… our freezers are FULL and ready for you!
If you’ve been meaning to stock up, try us for the first time, or place your next order, this would be a pretty great week to do it. Every order—big or small—helps us keep growing.
Here’s to Year Two of Gibson Farm & Ranch.
