The countdown is on! 🌸

Our lilies are getting closer and closer, and we’re watching those buds very closely around here.

Of course, when you’re growing flowers, “countdown” is a bit of a loose term. 😂 We can guess, we can watch, we can plan… but ultimately, the flowers get to decide when they’re ready.

So we’ll keep waiting for that first bloom to show us when the countdown actually ends.

Come on, lilies. We’re ready for you! 🌿

Post-Labor Day, pumpkin spice lattes are telling us it’s fall, but this 100-degree Texas heat says otherwise. 🌞

Life at the flower farm is a little bit of everything.

Early mornings. Dirt under our fingernails. A whole lot of patience. And then, suddenly, everything will be blooming at once. For now, we wait.

And we wouldn’t trade it for anything. 🌸

Flower farming is a lesson in patience and perseverance. Five things the flower farm has taught us...

1. Nature keeps its own schedule. While we keep the calendar, growth depends on the weather, the animals, and my ability to keep up with the weeds 😆

2. Not every seed becomes a flower. That's why we planted 1000 seeds this week, hoping for a good harvest for a portion of those in the fall!

3. Beauty usually takes longer than you hoped. See points 1 and 2, so much out of our control!

4. The best conversations happen while working. We have the best farm crew and we love any time we get to connect with you on farm tours as well! There's something about that fresh air that opens people up.

5. Fresh flowers really do change a room. This business started as a personal hobby of growing fresh flowers and I'm honored to get to share their beauty with you!

This week's flower Focus: Brain Flower 🌸

This is one of those flowers that I didn’t really appreciate until I started growing it.

Brain Flower, or cockscomb celosia, is about as weird and wonderful as a flower gets. The blooms have that crazy ruffled, almost brain-like shape, and they come in the prettiest colors.

It’s also a total workhorse in the summer garden. Celosia loves the heat and keeps producing when a lot of other flowers are starting to struggle, which makes it such a good flower for the cutting garden.

And I love the texture it adds to bouquets. It’s not your typical pretty little flower, but tuck a few stems into an arrangement and suddenly everything feels a little more interesting.

Definitely a flower that makes people stop and ask, “What IS that?” 😂
