Yes, it's abuse. Still not sure he understands that though. Let's hope he fixes that "temporary" caging situation today and realizes that is absolutely unacceptable or sells all of his rabbits asap.

I believe the latter is appropriate here though. I'd like to say that it was out of true ignorance, but Noone could look at that and think it's a good place for any animal to live. It's vile.

Havana, polish, or mini satin.

Which would be the easiest for youth to handle, has the sweetest temperament, and is the easiest to find quality breeders of the breed? Basically like a ch*****ne but smaller, serious about how chill they are being handled 😂

I am much more of a rabbit person than a chicken person.

So I have much more knowledge of rabbit breeding practices. I am quite curious tho. I see where people hatch HUNDREDS of eggs at time, multiple times (like 8-11 times) per year.

What are you doing with all those chicks?

That's thousands of chicks per year. Many of which would be roosters. I KNOW they are not all breeding quality, so what do you do?

Ethical rabbit breeders do not sell or use hard culls so they are harvested for food, be in human or animal food.

This is a genuine question. I do not know chicken breeding practices as I have little to no desire to get into selling them. I am just a person who likes to know how things work and how people handle different animal breeding practices.

I have chickens, close to 50. I've had chickens for longer than rabbits. I never hatched or anything before this year. Our chickens are for eggs mostly. I don't like butchering them, tbh. Rabbits are so much easier 😆

📣Calling all incubator gurus

I am openly NOT one lol. This is only the second time I've hatched. My incubator is currently on day 23 of the shipped eggs hatch.

Six have hatched.
One is visibly pipped but has been for almost 24 hours now with little change.
Three have no *visible* pipping.

The first egg hatched approximately 52 hours ago as of 4 pm EST time 10/16.

I have the brooder set up and warming.

Should I...

1. Pull the hatched ones tonight and leave the rest longer
2. Pull the hatched ones late tomorrow morning and leave the rest longer
3. Pull the hatched and toss the unmatched eggs

My concern is shrink wrapping the four unhatched eggs.

I wanted different nestboxes for my brooder cages since we moved into the rabbit barn. I came up with this design and want to share the plans with ya'll.

🐇MATERIALS
Sheet of plywood (at least 1/2")
1/8" galvanized wire mesh
Screws or nails (personal preference)
Wood glue (optional but preferred)
Circular saw (or your saw preference)
Stapler & staples
Common sense (don't forget this!)

🔨INSTRUCTIONS
1. Cut your pieces out of the plywood with saw.
2. Attach the 9" side on the back and 9" side on the side using wood glue. Screw or nail together.
3. Repeat on each corner.
4. Cut one 20" x 9" rectangle out of the wire mesh.
5. Staple wire mesh to bottom of nestbox.
6. Make 10 more. We both know you want more babies. Hehe.
Optional: Use front cutout to make a kit-scraper (lip) if you are concerned about babies being dragged out of nestbox.

I have rabbits 12lbs plus so I'm hoping this design works a little better than the traditional nestbox design. We shall see. Babies due next week if Tetra and/or Always took.

If you make it I'd love to know the pros and cons they present to you. And I'll update ya'll on how they work for my girls.

So excited for Danielle, and she was just as excited herself!

She reached out wanting a trio of Ch*****nes, but, as many of know, I had a whole lot of boys born this summer and only one doe so I had no does. I reached out to some fellow Ch*****ne breeders and was able to get a nice trio for her meat rabbit program.

That's the kind of people I want to be around. One that helps one another and supports new and seasoned breeders. I love my rabbit community and am happy to see a new breeder interested in the breed.
