I’ve never been a griller. It’s a challenge that never appealed to me. Maybe it’s because there are so many variables to cooking outdoors? I honestly don’t know.

So when my friend Lisa came in looking for a very specific tool to do a very specific job on her grill, I just had to step back and let her search for it.

Lisa found what she was looking for and then tried to explain to me how she was going to use it. I thought maybe I understood. But when Lisa sent this in-action photo (she’s a photographer!!) I realized that I had no clue.

So I searched the www to educate myself a bit about the concept and methodology.

I realized that I’ve savored the fruits of accomplished grillers without understanding how they perfected the textures and flavors that I love.

While I’m not gonna run out and buy a grill, I am able to walk you through the process. And if I forget something, I have Lisa’s #.

What started as a business relationship quickly became a friendship. Six years later, we’re more like family.

My husband and I have rented a house on Fire Island every year. This is our sixth year.

I found Marc through a Facebook forum.
We were hosting 14 of Barclay’s family and it was important to us to memorialize the reunion.

The Barefoot Photographer came highly recommended on social media. Once I started doing a deep dive on TBP I realized we had all sorts of connections. I love when the world works like that.

Our family has grown by two since that first trip on the ferry. And Marc Millman has captured all of it.

Last night’s photo shoot included a little red wagon. I can’t wait to see what TBP saw through his lens.

On behalf of the Vermont Community Foundation and The Curtis Fund, it was my profound honor to present this year’s Northshire and Mettawee Valley Scholarship to Morgan-Taylor Spano.

Ms. Spano is a 2026 graduate of Burr and Burton Academy (my alma mater!). Reading about Mo before awarding her this four year scholarship did not prepare me for all that she is.

Raised in the foster care system, Morgan balanced academics, sports, performing arts and employment during her four years at BBA. Ms. Spano was selected by faculty as a Burr and Burton Ambassador.

Morgan will bring her megawatt smile to the University of Connecticut where she will study Business and Real Estate.

The Curtis Fund continues to expand access to education, supporting workforce development, and helping build a brighter future for neighbors in our region interested in pursuing post secondary education.

Established in 1910 by Emma Eliza Curtis, the Fund grants $2 million annually in scholarships to Vermont residents. This money levels the playing field to allow low income residents pursue a trade certification or a postsecondary education degree.

Huge thanks to the Don’t Leave Band for bringing their inimitable energy and to WEQX for bringing the joy…and Jeff and Joy!!

And thanks to the weather gods who gave us the BEST night of the season. Phew! When I was planning the FAMBP, someone asked me what will I do if it rains. I replied ‘It’s not going to rain’. Thanks to the big guns upstairs for not making me a liar.

My most sincere thanks to the 47 local businesses and non-profits for having faith in the power of community. For trusting us to pull it together. For showing up. For bringing it. All of it.
