Hey, all!
We just wanted to give a quick check-in for those who are new to the page or for any of our followers who may have questions about our program.
2nd Chance Stables is an LLC located in Metamora, Michigan, and we primarily train and rehabilitate OTTBs—Off-Track Thoroughbreds. We are a group of volunteers and dedicated horse professionals who work closely with local veterinarians, farriers, trainers, and our connections at the track.
The goal of our program is to provide a safe and supportive segue for retired racehorses as they leave the track. We provide the training, rehabilitation, letdown time, and individual care they need to successfully transition from their racing careers into their next adventures.
We truly believe that every retired racehorse deserves a 2nd Chance to prove that while their racing days may be over, they still have so much more to offer!
To date, we have helped rehabilitate and place more than 20 Thoroughbreds into new homes and careers. While we primarily work with Thoroughbreds, other breeds occasionally come through our program as well—and they have just as much to offer as our OTTB friends!
Every horse that comes through our doors receives a personalized program tailored to their individual needs. We dedicate as much time, care, and attention as possible to making sure each horse is physically and mentally prepared for whatever comes next.
That being said, our program is privately funded. That's right—we are homegrown and currently do not receive outside financial support or regular donations. If you'd like to donate, we would certainly appreciate the support, but that's not why we do what we do. Our focus is, and always will be, the horses first. Keeping our program small helps us maintain that focus.
All proceeds from the sale of our horses go directly back into the farm and the animals themselves. We purchase these horses from the track with our own personal funds, and the farm covers the costs associated with their feed, veterinary care, farrier work, rehabilitation, training, and day-to-day needs.
Right now, we are finishing up with a lovely group of horses that have completed their respective rehabilitation and training programs and are ready to find their new homes. As sad as it can be to say goodbye, finding the right homes for these horses allows us to make room for newly retiring Thoroughbreds that need a soft landing, time to let down, and a safe place to begin preparing for life after racing.
And no—we are not selling all of the horses in our program! We are simply making room so that we are prepared when we get the call about new horses that need our help.
We will consider all reasonable offers, with special consideration given to experienced buyers, trainers, and equine professionals who can provide an appropriate home for each individual horse. Our advertisements for available horses include all relevant information we have so prospective owners can make informed decisions and be prepared to build a strong relationship with their new partner.
Pre-purchase examinations (PPEs) are always welcome and strongly encouraged at the prospective buyer's expense. All known information regarding each horse is disclosed at the time of sale. For many of these horses, we are the only owner they have had since leaving the track, and we take that responsibility seriously. Our goal is always to make their transition into a new home and career as smooth and successful as possible.
Thank you all for your time, support, and consideration! The horses and our team appreciate it more than you know.
If you have questions about any of our available horses, have a special request, would like more information about our program, or are interested in potentially volunteering, please feel free to reach out anytime!
Every horse deserves a 2nd Chance. 🐴❤️
