Helping Hands at St. Isidore Farm

Helping Hands at St. Isidore Farm Privately owned farm/facility providing a skill coaching program for those with special needs “In this life we cannot always do great things.

But we can do small things with great love” Mother Teresa

We are a privately owned farm/facility built with the goal to provide a safe, sound, and secure environment for those with special needs to learn, explore and develop into their elite selves. Our farm was built in 2006, which then, consisted of our main horse barn and alpaca barn. From there, it has grown to include 2 acres of gardens, 1/2

acre orchard, and our skill coaching program which is ran in conjunction with Community Mental Health (CMH) and MCISD

The program hosts, on a weekly basis, up to 70 special needs clients who learn skills that come with maintaining a farm, garden, and animals. Encouraging team problem solving, supporting your peers, and accomplishing goals are a few of the skills our program strives to teach as our clients grow. We believe the best way to make a change is to start in your own community by helping to better the lives of those around you! We have many aspects to our farm and program that we wish to share so keep watching to see what we are doing next! The Vinciguerra Family

❤️ To the individuals we serve and their families, guardians, and caregivers:

You may have heard that there has been a change at St. Isidore Farm and the Fiber Mill.

👍 We want to assure everyone that both programs WILL continue to operate and serve our community. Going forward, services will be provided through a new partnership with Goodwill Industries!

❓If you have questions about how this transition may affect your loved one, we encourage you to contact your CMH caseworker to discuss any updates or adjustments that may be needed

🎉 We are excited about this next chapter and the opportunities this partnership with Goodwill Industries will bring! Thank you for your continued support, trust, and commitment to the individuals we serve ❤️

☺️ We look forward to continuing this important work together ☺️

☀️Getting ready for the heat wave! ☀️

🦙 Alpacas don’t sweat, pant, or have any way to naturally expel heat, except for finding cool spots to lay down

🧊 So we provide them pools with cold water to cool their bellies and legs down during hot days

✔️ Shearing day was busy, but so important for our animals care! 🦙

Facts:

🔹Happens once a year, normally in the spring🌸
🔹Takes about 8-10min per animal ⏱️
🔹Sheared (shaved), shots, teeth, and feet are all done within that 10min window
🔹No, they don’t like it 👎🏻 (some do though ☺️)
🔹No, it does not hurt 👍🏼
🔹Must be done because they do not shed or loose their hair so they would eventually die from the heat
