Sarah Tompkins, paramedic, Chief of Searsmont Rescue, and farmer at Fine Line Farm, was severely injured in the Searsmont mill explosion on 5/15. We have had the privilege of vending with and becoming friends with Sarah and Hubert of Fine Line Farm over the past 10 plus years. Please rally around these amazing people, their farm crew and their farm in whatever way you are able. Go fund me donation link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-sarah-heal-after-the-mill-explosion

Sarah is a selfless, strong, and caring farmer and first responder. Many throughout MidCoast and Downeast Maine have enjoyed the legendary greens from Fine Line Farm that she has planted, harvested, and delivered with care. Her family is asking for support in the financial burden of medical care, recovery, and day-to-day expenses while she heals. Every donation, no matter the amount, makes a meaningful difference and reminds Sarah that she is surrounded by care and support in the wider farming community.

SUGAR SNAP PEA APPRECIATION POST:
I love them. I love early high tunnel peas. I love watching them grow up trellising. I love finding the first flower and then patiently waiting for the peas to appear. I love watching my kids hunt for them in the pea forest and then sort their harvest on the porch couch. I love how excited customers get when they see the first peas of the season. Today was pea transplanting day for 2026. They are being watered in now. This afternoon we will hoop and cover them to try to keep them cozy for the rest of the winter. With any luck, we will be harvesting in early June.

Farm crew positions for 2026 are up on our website- please check them out and consider sharing them! Second Frost Farm is a small scale, high production, MOFGA certified organic vegetable operation and lacto-fermentory! The farm currently has just over one acre of land in vegetable production, including 4 unheated high tunnels and 2 seasonal caterpillar tunnels which allow us to produce nearly year round. We utilize low-till and majority human-powered farm practices as we work towards our vision of improving soil health, building climate resilience and nourishing our community- both on and off the farm! We sell the vast majority of our farm products at two local farmers’ markets where we work with other vendors and the Maine Federation of Farmers’ Market to expand food access in the mid-coast.
