🚨 Everyday (at least everyday that they're open) fish fry alert! 🚨

No one can agree exactly where "up north" starts, but we went far enough north that we ran out of Wisconsin here in Bayfield, on the shores of Lake Superior and home to Hoop's Fish Market along with their fish shack out back, Hoop's Dockside 🧭

Two options await you at their grill/fryer hut: a fish and chips basket, with two big breaded and fried fillets of Lake Superior whitefish atop a pile of shoestring fries, or a seasoned and grilled whitefish served with dirty rice.

In either case, there's a good chance your fish was swimming recently. This was some of the best and freshest fish I can remember, and would highly recommend checking it out us you come up to visit the Apostle Islands! 😋👍🐟

Another great Greek-American restaurant fish fry!

Today's Friday fish fry brings us to Zebb's at 27th and Morgan in Milwaukee, a place that's been serving up hearty meals to locals since 1994, and boy was this a huge meal 😲

Their Friday fish fry features 2 or 3 pieces of amazing beer battered Icelandic cod (I got 3 but quickly realized 2 would have been more that enough). This has to be in the top tier as far as fish quality goes - super tender, bright white flakes and just fantastic all around

Served along with a side (went with fries, which had a nice seasoning to them), plus coleslaw, tartar and a big dinner roll 👍🐟

Oh, and since it's a Greek spot, you know you're getting more, and that includes a cup of soup (not pictured, but was a chicken aoup or clam chowder today), plus dessert (a big slice of double fudge chocolate cake that I swore I took a photo of 🤷‍♂️). Food coma! 👍🇬🇷

🚨 Everyday fish fry alert! 🚨

When most people describe a comeback story for a restaurant as "a phoenix rising from the ashes", it's meant as a metaphor, but that's literally the what happened at Oscar's in Brookfield (Town of Brookfield, on Moreland just southwest of 94).

If you missed it, back in November 2024 a fire broke out overnight that destroyed the old building. Fortunately, no one was inside at the time, but it meant a total loss.

Well, as of earlier this week, they're back! A brand new beautiful building complete with double drive thru and an open, airy interior greet customers looking to fill their custard fix, along with a selection of burgwrs, sandwiches, sides, and this: their fish & shrimp combo 😋

Available daily, you can get their fish & chips or their shrimp basket, but why not have both? 🤷‍♂️

Featuring two strips of crispy battered cod, plus six Redhook Ale beer battered shrimp, served along with a side (the shoestring Fries are fantastic) plus tartar, cocktail sauce and lemon. 🐟🍤

They're quite busy, as you can imagine, but my food was still ready in about 5 minutes, served up hot and fresh 👍

How about some double barrel action for today's Friday fish fry?

Ricky's Double Barrel Inn (on St. Martin's Rd in Franklin, southeast of Forest Home) took over the old Wegner's St. Martins Inn space in 2024 and set up a nice supper club of their own, featuring steaks and chops, German favorites, Saturday prime rib, and it wouldn't be complete without a Friday fish fry 😋

Here's another great example of a nice thin and seasoned breading, just thick enough to get the job done without being greasy or overwhelming the fish. I went with the classic cod as a three piece (you can go with four if your extra hungry), served along with some excellent shoestring fries (they also have potato pancakes or garlic butter pasta as options), plus marble rye, slaw and tartar 👍

Want something other than cod? They've got several other choices, like perch, walleye, baked cod, grilled salmon, clam chowder, fried shrimp, and if you can't decide, how about the Friday night sampler with cod, walleye and perch for a fish fry-fecta? 🐟🐟🐟

Is your Friday not bringing the heat today? Make a call to The Bullpen! ⚾️

There's been a bar at 19745 W National in New Berlin for awhile, but it was relaunched late last summer under new management as The Bullpen Sports Bar & Grill with a new menu including pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, and, of course, Friday fish fry options 😋

For today's lunch, a 3 piece beer-battered cod takes the mound in a relief appearance, weighing in at 12 oz with a fast delivery (mine was ready in under 10 minutes), with nice batter flavor and big flakes of fish.

Served along with a side of fries (or upgrade like I did to their crunchy waffle fries - potato pancakes and sweet potato fries are also available), plus coleslaw, marble rye and tartar 👍🐟

On an overcast day, if we can't have blue skies, we can at least have Blue Bay 😁

Today's fish fry comes from Blue Bay Restaurant in Mukwonago (on Main St just north of Bayview Rd), yet another of the many wonderful Greek family restaurants in the area. What's so great about these type of places? You won't go hungry eating here!

Picked up a Friday fish fry featuring three nice chunks of cod in a light and crispy batter with good flake. Served with a side, and since places like this are typically also great breakfast food spots, let's go with some delicious hash browns, the kind that you'll never be able to recreate at home without a well seasoned griddle that has served thousands of meals, plus a huge yeast roll, tartar, and coleslaw 👍🐟

Oh, and you'll need a cup of soup (today is clam chowder) and a dessert (didn't feel like the slice of cheesecake and was promptly offered a scoop of ice cream 🍨, so that's included to 😋

Score a delicious Friday fish fry today! 🏈

Kicked it on over to Point After Pub & Grille (a great sports bar at the corner of 76th and Rawson in Franklin) for a fantastic fish fry on a nice day before we start back up with the rain again ⛈️

It's always a treat when I find one of these styles of fish fry: super light and nicely seasoned breading over extremely tender haddock (3 pieces) with great flavor, plus a side (upgraded to their sidewinder potatoes, recommended!), along with marble rye bread, tartar and coleslaw 🐟👍

Oh, and because it was an option, let's add on 4 crunchy fried shrimp 🍤 😋

Another day, another Icelandic fish and chips 😋

After a long day exploring the south coast, we stopped in Selfoss on our way back to Reykjavik to check out their food hall, which features several local food stalls, including this one: Samúelsson Matbar

Specializing in what they call "Scandinavian food traditions with an Asian twist", their menu includes a delicious fiah and chips

Two huge pieces of fall apart tender cod in a light breading, served atop a heaping portion of garlic truffle fries (super garlic-y), plus pickles cucumber and onion salad and aioli. Ljúffengt! 🇮🇸👍🐟

7 years later, still delicious! 🇮🇸

We're in Iceland for a long weekend getaway and on the lookout for tasty fish options (can't get fish much fresher than here), but first let's head back to a place we tried back in 2019 and enjoyed, Kaffivagninn, which happens to be the oldest restaurant in Iceland

Founded in 1935 and located on Reykjavik's harbor, Kaffivagninn features several seafood dishes (and a few land based options), including an excellent fish and chips 😋

Served as two of the most tender pieces of fresh Icelandic cod I can remember having, lightly battered and fried to a crisp crunch and served on some simply deliciously seasoned shoestring fries, plus red cabbage slaw, tartar sauce, and Bearnaise sauce

Also, the catch of the day today: Arctic char, cooked up in a cast iron pan with a creamy sauce, plus root veggies.

If you find yourself in Iceland (and if you haven't been, we highly recommended it), treat yourself to a tasty meal here 👍🐟

Good Friday fish fry from a burger spot in Franklin 😋

Swung by Milwaukee Burger Company (on 27th just south of College) to pick up a fish fry lunch. Their Friday fish fry comes with 2 or 3 pieces of fantastic beer battered cod and a big portion of my favorite style of fries, skin-on hand cut 🍟

Rather than some bread and slaw, they instead give you an absolutely enormous side salad, plus tartar sauce - their whole menu looks good, and they have 6 other locations as well (Appleton, Eau Claire, Hudson, La Crosse, Pleasant Prairie and Wausau) so you can find one near you 👍🐟
