It’s with an extremely heavy heart from me that I am posting this. Susan tragically passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, after a head on collision with a vehicle going the wrong direction on the interstate. As y’all know, she had a deep passion for her girls. She is missed by many people. Her contribution to the dairy goat community was far reaching, farther than what I ever imagined. Here is a link for the funeral arrangements.

We have had a busy couple of weeks!

Last weekend we added sweet Chaco to our family. He will be our barn buddy. He made his first trip this weekend to go to Delta Ohio to pick up a new saanen for our growing saanen project.

Thank goodness for our LGD’s. We would have lost our goats today if it weren’t for our wonderful dogs doing their jobs!!! If you don’t have LGD’s with your livestock, you are gambling with their lives.

Day 5 and 6 are a success!

Yesterday we showed our experimental doe (Rose). She is a fat goat but a very nice looking goat. She made the cut at 21st place. When she gets about 15 pounds off she will easily move up the line.

Today we attended the social event and the spotlight sale where we witnessed a Nigerian Dwarf Buck kid sell for $26,750.

We came to nationals with two goals.

1. Gain insight that will better our breeding program
2. Make the cut

We now have adapted our breeding plans to better our herd and we made the cut with 2 out of the 3 does we showed.

We can’t wait for nationals 2027 (next year is too far away)

Day 4 is a wrap!!

It started at 7 a.m. with our saana placing 14th out of a large competitive class of yearling milkers

It ended with our Nubian, maybella at 8 p.m. we did not make the cut out of a class of 67 sr dry yearlings but took away several pointers on what needs to be accomplished during breeding season,

Day 3 at ADGA Nationals in Grand Island was spent at the barn trimming and preparing for tomorrow and then after lunch we toured the stuhr museum. Tomorrow is a huge day for us. We start at 7 am with Everly our senior saanan and then at 4pm we show Maybella our Nubian jr.

I am super proud of Aubri Hutcheson with her 13th place finish in showmanship out of 56 youth in her class and Webb Jousa’s 8th place finish in his showmanship finish out of 26
