Great Italian wine is about exploring a sense of place in the glass. You don’t have to spend a lot to do this. All it takes is curiosity, patience and a little charcuterie :)

Check out these gems from Sicilia and Piemonte, wines that loudly personify a sense of place in the glass.

August wine club heads to the Veneto🔥

We visit the areas of Soave and Valpolicella through the glass of three producers: Inama, Secondo Marco and Roccolo Grassi.

Passaporto booklet is a snapshot of Venetian culture, history and geography, with close attention paid to the rise, fall and rise again of these prestigious winemaking areas.

Why this club?
Italian wine is about discovering culture. Learn a little about the geography, climate, cuisine and dedicated artisans like Marco Speri, the Grassi’s and Inama’s… and the experience in the glass is so much more revealing, and rewarding.

Bottivino Wine Club details can be found in my BIO or feel free to DM me directly🔥

Another great night with fellow Nebbiolo fanatics. This time at Barberio in the Mission. All agreed the Oddero 2004 Mondoca was singing beautifully, showing the richness and depth of Monforte d’Alba fruit. The 2018’s were restrained and fragrant, with Roagna taking the lead. The 1964’s were a little tired and slightly flawed, yet still enchanting to experience in the glass. Great to see NYC legend Ken Vastola!

New class on the books for September 🍷🙌🏻🗺️ Read on…

Barbera is one of northern Italy’s iconic grapes. From its home in Piemonte, Barbera has the most vineyards of any other grape in the area, even Nebbiolo. Yet, it has developed a reputation as a workhorse “everyday” varietal for the lunch table, often playing second fiddle to Barolo and Barbaresco. Those in the know, know different.

Presenting a unique retrospective tasting experience of this important varietal, told through the glass of 8 of its greatest practitioners. If you have ever loved Barbera, this is your chance to taste some of the very best being made today. We will explore history, characteristics in the vineyard and winery, benchmark appellations and tell stories of producers who have elevated this grape to noble status.

Great Sicily class last night!! We tasted through a progression of wines from across the ‘Tre Valli’, touching on geography, climate, regions and Sicily’s tumultuous history.

This tasting sparked intense debate, rabbit-hole storytelling, and involved one bad bottle happily replaced with an old-vine Etna rosato!

August wine club travels to the Veneto!! 🗺️ Next month, we take a closer look at the benchmark regions Soave and Valpolicella, through the glass of multi-generational families:

The heart of Passaporto Wine Club is the 6-page narrative booklet inspired by my class program. First, I sketch Veneto in broad strokes (regions, history, cuisine), then we go deep (geography, climate, soils) and tie in stories of prominent villages and winemakers… all to help reveal the vinous experience in the glass!

Loving Italian wine is about discovering a sense of place. Join us Table22 for a different region every month.

• Classico: booklet + 2 wines | $99/month
• Riserva: booklet + 2 upgraded wines | $149/month
• Solo Vino: 2 wines only | $69/month

A look into the past. Old Nebbiolo has this elusive quality that is hard to anticipate, capable of temptation, surprise, bewilderment and reward. This past Thursday, we were rewarded by 4 vintage Baroli while dining with a few close friends. All were whispering secrets, some louder than others. Often, one or two will be tired and tenuous, but not this night!

Prandi 1967: luminescent and murmuring softly…
Pio Cesare 1967: multi-layered and oh so delicate…
Aurelio Settimo 1980: dense, wide and rustic…
Giacosa 1996 Falletto: a coiled viper, poised for another 30

Pio edged out the lot. 🙌🏻

Dear French wine… I miss you!!

Earlier this week I led an immersive tasting through some of 🇫🇷 France’s iconic wine regions. We followed a famous route through Champagne, Chablis, Burgundy and the Rhone. Wine tasting are a compelling way to build rapport between associates, clients and leaders!!

Forgot to photo the line-up 🤦🏻‍♂️ but it was baller:
- Gimonnet NV Blanc de Blancs ‘Cuis’
- Defaix 2022 Chablis ‘Cote de Lechet’
- Jerome Fornerot 2023 Santeney Rouge ‘Les Charmes’ ⭐️
- Michel Gros 2022 Haute Cote Nuits ‘Saint Martin’
- Mickael Bourg 2022 Cornas ⭐️

I really enjoy transforming boardrooms into classrooms.

Vini Bianchi was intimate and revelatory. 6 stories in the glass, from the glacial soils of Aosta to the volcanic fields of Campania, the range was impressive. The education was evident in the glass, reflecting diverse regions, soils and elevations.

The Marangona took center stage with its complex and taunt expression, reigning as WOTN! Montenidoli was a close second, showing wines almost as incredible as their matriarch. Is Blanc de Morgex Italy’s most unique white? Few to compare to really... I surprised everyone with an Accadia 2013 Verdicchio Castello di Jesi to close the tasting🔥

7/28 Sicilia is next, almost sold out.
