Teasing next month’s Passaporto Wine Club theme, Etna! I am proud to feature Calabretta and Girolamo Russo, two wonderful producers working old vines on this active volcano.

The booklet begins with a snapshot of Sicilia, its regions and grapes, plus some facts about cuisine. We then take a closer look at Etna’s history, topography and unique soils. It’s all about painting a detailed portrait of place for a richer wine experience.

Looking forward to telling their stories:

New tasting on the books for July!!

In this class, we will make the case for how great Italian whites really are with 6 unique mono-varietal selections from across the boot. Forgoing blends and wines inspired by other countries, we will exclusively highlight small producers working with native grapes to reflect a sense of place in the glass.

This tasting was inspired by a recent string of producer tastings this spring that truly captivated me. Rare Verdicchio clone from Lombardia, vintage Falanghina, volcanic whites from Etna... I cannot wait to share these exciting wines and stories with you.

Getting pumped for the upcoming Learn Langhe class SF Italian Athletic Club

Every quarter, I get the opportunity to explore some of Italy’s great wine regions at this storied club. In two weeks, we take a closer look at the wines of the Langhe, home to Barolo, Barbaresco, Roero and Dogliani. Looking forward to charting the rise of Nebbiolo from its aristocratic past to its modern day expressions.

For the month of June, Passaporto visits the very heart of southern Italian wine, Campania, to explore volcanos of in the west: Campi Flegrei and Roccamonfina!

I am so proud of this subscription, which has been running for almost 3 years now. It began as a regional hopscotch and has evolved into a targeted dive into specific winemaking areas and appellations that I feel are worthy of a closer look.

The stage is set with an overview of the region’s history, wines, and cuisine. Then, we focus on a single or contrasting appellation to tell the story of place.

Read, taste, close your eyes, and the story unfolds!

June Passaporto goes to western Campania! Scroll through to learn more.

I am so proud of this subscription. 2.5 years and still going strong. It began as a regional hopscotch around Italy and has evolved into a targeted dive into specific winemaking areas and appellations I think are worth a closer look.

I set the stage with an overview of the region’s history, wines and cuisine. Then we focus on a single place or contrasting appellations to tell the story. Read, taste, close your eyes and a story unfolds in the glass.

Great wine is about place.

We had a wonderful class this past Tuesday! What a fun and informative evening discovering the wines of Abruzzo through the glass of a single producer

🍇 Could Montepulciano be Italy’s most misunderstood grape? So many expressed how inexpensive Montepulciano had turned them off to these wines. And, so much confusion with that little town in Toscana… Knowledge powers rediscovery, just need a dash of curiosity and a somm to lead the way :))

In a bout for the ages, central Italian southpaw Brunello will be squaring off against the nose-cruncher of the north Nebbiolo, in a brawl for the top spot as reigning king of Italian wine!

🥊 This Fathers Day, technically two days after, test your dads mettle with this curated blind tasting of Nebbiolo and Sangiovese, side by side, in an evening of discovery. The goal, of course, is to explore these incredible grape varietals in the glass thorugh 8 hand-picked wines covering Chianti, Barolo, Brunello, Barbaresco, Romagnolo Sangiovese, Langhe Nebbiolo and more.

Seeking a greater understanding of the production, appellations and styles of these grapes? No better way than a blind tasting, where the education is truly in the glass.
