Hong Kong on Saturday was something. Eighty-six New World Records. HK$47 million. And at the center of it, a moment that won’t repeat: Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, direct from the Domaine, celebrating 200 years of La Romanée as a single, family-owned Monopole.

Comte Louis-Michel traveled from Burgundy with his son Vicomte Henry, the 7th and future 8th Comte, for two days of private dinners and an extraordinary vertical tasting before the gavel ever dropped. The room arrived primed. It showed.

A full en avant-première barrel of 2023 Vosne-Romanée, never before offered publicly, took the top lot at HK$1,900,000. The 22-bottle La Romanée vertical (2002–2023) drew fierce competition at HK$1,000,000. Records fell on two-thirds of eligible Liger-Belair lots, 16 across 34 offerings.

Then came Bordeaux. The Chairman’s collection brought the faithful out in force: 1945 Mouton at HK$1,600,000, a Jeroboam of 1961 Latour direct from the Château, 1961 Palmer, 1961 Haut Brion. Nearly a century of the great châteaux, from cellars kept with obvious devotion. Bidding ran hard from the first lot to the last.

Some rooms you remember. This was one of them.

At the Rosewood Hotel, Acker and Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair marked the bicentennial of La Romanée as a single, family-owned monopole with a landmark celebration, a grand vertical of fifty vintages spanning 1919 to 2023 guided personally by Comte Louis-Michel Liger-Belair!

This extraordinary retrospective featured a grand tasting and bicentennial dinner celebrating two centuries of unbroken stewardship. We were extremely honored to be a part of it.

While in Hong Kong, John Kapon sat down with Louis-Michel Liger-Belair to discuss the remarkable history of La Romanée. Their conversation touched on the family’s arrival in Burgundy in 1815, the creation of the monopole, and what it means to steward one of the world’s most celebrated vineyards more than two centuries later.

In celebration of this milestone, discover exceptional selections from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair in Acker's June Hong Kong Auction.

Comte Louis-Michel Liger-Belair has a special connection to Hong Kong. It’s where collectors first embraced what he was building in Vosne-Romanée. This week, he returns to celebrate 200 years of La Romanée as a single, family-owned monopole, and the dinner at One Harbour Road set the tone.

Guests enjoyed an extraordinary journey through the Domaine: three vintages of the rare white Burgundy monopole, Nuits-Saint-Georges Blanc 1er Cru Clos des Grandes Vignes. Through Vosne-Romanée La Colombière, Clos du Château Monopole, and Aux Malconsorts. Into 2011 Aux Reignots, 2016 Clos de Vougeot, and 2019 Échézeaux. Closing where it had to: 2006, 2011, and 2016 La Romanée Monopole.

Two centuries ago, General Comte Louis Liger-Belair reunified La Romanée and established it as a single-owner monopole. Just 0.8452 hectares. Fewer than 4,000 bottles a year. Among the world’s rarest and most coveted wines. On Saturday, that legacy comes to auction: more than thirty Domaine-direct lots, including a complete vertical of La Romanée from 2002 through 2023 and the first-ever public offering of an en avant-première barrel of 2023 Vosne-Romanée.

Two hundred years of one family. One monopole. One weekend in Hong Kong. Stay tuned as we continue celebrating with Louis-Michel.

Acker's June Hong Kong Auction is this Saturday, June 6th, at 10 a.m. HKT, and we could not be more excited to announce a direct-from-the-Domaine consignment from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair.

Lots 537–570 represent one of Burgundy's most historic estates, the home of La Romanée, the smallest Grand Cru appellation in the Côte d'Or, with fewer than 4,000 bottles produced per year, offered through Acker in celebration of the bicentennial of La Romanée as a single family-owned monopole.

A complete vertical of La Romanée spanning 2002 through 2023 does not come to auction in a package like this. It simply does not happen very often, and when it does, it rarely arrives direct from the Domaine with a reason behind it this significant. This is how the Domaine is marking two hundred years: with more than thirty exceptional lots led by every vintage under Comte Louis-Michel's direct stewardship from 2002 to 2023.

Alongside the vertical: rare large formats of La Romanée from 2006 and 2016, including a jéroboam of 2016. Mature holdings from Aux Brûlées, Les Suchots, Les Petits Monts, Les Chaumes, and Aux Reignots. A complete 2023 horizontal across Grands Échézeaux, Malconsorts, Aux Réas, and La Croix Rameau. Two 2021 magnums from Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots and Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru.

And this, offered publicly for the first time: an en avant-première barrel of 2023 Vosne-Romanée. The winning bidder receives personalized labels, wooden cases, and the barrel itself. This is a real opportunity, and it is here right now.

2025 Château Cos d’Estournel is one of the latest En Primeur releases to draw attention, with the château holding pricing in line with last year despite what feels like a noticeable quality step up in the glass. In the context of today’s Bordeaux market, that level of restraint matters.

A highly spiced nose, pure purple berry fruit and apple blossom touches lead into a supple, silky palate lifted by fresh acidity and backed by firm yet ripe tannins. There’s some big extraction here, but also plenty of freshness and energy, with coarse and sandy tannins dominating the finish for now alongside a good bitter edge.

There’s depth, concentration, and structure here, but also balance and precision that should position the 2025 very well over time. This feels like one of those vintages collectors will be very happy they bought early.
