Success Story: Lu Nello named Best Wine List in New Jersey

Lu Nello in Cedar Grove has been named Best Wine List in New Jersey Monthly’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards.

Playing a key role in the design, concept, and wine selections for this list has been deeply gratifying.

Heartfelt thanks to Wine Director Stephanie for trusting me with the opportunity, and to Chef Lou for supporting the vision.

A wine list should be more than a collection of bottles.

It should have a point of view. It should belong to the restaurant's identity. And it should make people want to order a good wine.

That’s been my philosophy for years—and it’s the idea behind my book, The Wine List That Sells Itself.

So seeing Lu Nello recognized by New Jersey diners is a wonderful validation of that philosophy.

Puglia is the land of rosé in Italy. While great rosés come from everywhere, Puglia’s got something different. The region’s indigenous reds—Negroamaro, Primitivo, Bombino, Nero di Troia—make exceptional rosatos. Why? Puglia’s hot. Really hot in summer. Native red grapes, barely any indigenous whites. So when locals wanted something cool to drink, their red grapes became rosé. We just brought one to the States for the first time. Jorche Rosato from Salento, made with Negroamaro from hand-harvested grapes along the Ionian coast. This isn’t pink water. It’s full-bodied, aromatic, layered. The freshness of white wine with the structure of red. We’ve converted strict red drinkers and everyday rosé lovers alike. Sea breeze minerality meets red candied notes.
