why does no one talk about failure or giving something new a fair shot in your 30’s?
I suppose the same thing applies to any age and any person! I’ve been a hairdresser for almost half my life which is kind of insane when you think about my age. Anyways..
I began selling flowers a few years ago as a way to share the joy that I had found in my garden. As the demand grew — so did my fear of failure. I didn’t have the pressure in my “job job.” My clients had been with me for years and those relationships forged trust — something I hadn’t created yet in flowers. The pressure of having healthy plants, healthy soil, healthy blooms, stunning arrangements — all of a sudden, I felt a large fear of failure. Because when I do something, I dive head first. That fear of failure was something I hadn’t had since I was 18. I’m pretty sure no 18 year old is afraid to fail anyways!? 😂
I said to heck with the pressure this season and grew what I was good at — arranging when I wanted and arranging what challenged me to create for fun, not for sale. If it moved - it moved. If it didn’t, I would pivot and move on! And WOOOOWW can I just tell you how FREEING that feeling is!? Sigh. Doing something so simple, like bringing it back to what I love, has reignited my creativity and reminded me of how lucky we are to even have the chance to TRY something new! And to try something different if that doesn’t work out!
All of this to say — you can’t fail if you don’t begin 🫶🏼🌸
