A big thanks to everyone that submitted a photo for this years calendar. I really enjoy seeing your photos of your ranches. So many beautiful spots. It was a hard choice this year. We got down to about 10 contenders. A few of them were from customers we’ve already featured and I always like going with a new ranch. We went with a beautiful sunset view from Debra Cockrell. Thanks Debra and congratulations!!

2169 head today. Good market today with strong prices and aggressive bidding on all classes of feeder cattle. Grass buyers are starting to buy calves to stockpile for winter turnout. Very few yearlings today but market was still good. Cull cows felt a bit stronger, especially feeder cows. Just a handful of bred cows and pairs.

It sure felt nice to get a break in the weather in the first rain of the season. not sure how much we actually got but it felt like close to an inch today. Looks like most of the state all the way to the Grapevine got some precipitation. That should get the grass started, and Help the prices on the light cattle going forward. and it looks like a good chance of some more rain over the next 10 to 12 days.

I posted yesterday asking for ranch photos for our calendar contest. If you have some good pictures, please add them to that post. I’ll probably pick a winner sometime this weekend.
well that’s it for this week. Thank you everyone. I hope you enjoy the fall weather and have a great week. We will see you again here next Thursday.

Hey everyone. It’s time for my favorite post of the year. I need to get a new picture for our 2027 calendar. Here are some photos that I’ve used in years past to give you an idea of what I’m looking for. Feel free to post any picture of your ranches that you have though. They are all fun to look at. It helps to put the location of the Ranch when you post your photos. we will pick a winner in the next few days. Whoever submits the winning photo will get some Orland Livestock gear. Thanks everyone. I’m really looking forward to the posts.

2324 head today. Feeder market continues to be strong. We had a good run of calves from 500 to 800 pounds. very few light cattle or yearlings. Decent run of bred cows. Market was good. Still no pairs. Cull cow market feels like maybe it found a bottom. Cows were steady to maybe $3-$4 higher.

2704 head today. We had a really good run of 500 to 750 pound calves today. There were a few yearlings and a few light calves also. Market was steady on most classes of cattle. Starting to see a few more buyers showing up to pick away at light calves for winter turnout. Still no big runs of light calves, though. No Bred Cows or pairs to speak of again. It feels like they might be hard to find this fall. Cull cows continue to weaken. $5-$10 cheaper.

Except for the butcher cows, it was a really good sale. It’s nice to see five and six weight steer calves bringing $2600-$2700 apiece right off the cows. thanks to all of the consigners for letting me know about your vaccine protocols. I had information on over 80% of the cattle we sold today. It really does make a difference. We’ve added a link on our page that allows you to upload your vaccinations directly to our sale computer. the link is right near the top of our page. Call the office or get in touch with Kyler if you need help with the link. the info you type in is displayed on a television screen above the ring when your cattle are being sold. It’s a pretty neat feature.
Well, that’s pretty much it for this week. I’m sure glad this weather is finally going to break and cool off. It’s been way too hot for way too long. Thanks everyone. Have a great weekend and we will see you again here next Thursday.

1268 head. We had a nice run of calves today between 400 pounds and 750 pounds. Very few yearlings. The calf market was very strong. No test on pairs or bred cows. Butcher market took another drop this week. Butcher cows are now $500 a head cheaper than they were a month ago.

Good sale for the first week of October. I know I talk about it a lot, but October is the month with the biggest spread between calves with 2 rounds of vaccines and calves without. Some buyers even want to know if the calves have had a killed or modified live vaccine(They prefer the modified live). The price difference can easily be over $300 a head. So make sure you vaccinate your calves. Use a modified live vaccine if you can. And definitely let us know that you’ve done it.
Well, that’s it for this week. Thanks everyone. Have a great weekend and we will see you again next Thursday.

1590 head today. Pretty good sale today. Feeder market was mostly steady. We did not have any midweight weaned cattle so they look a little cheaper on paper but everything we sold was a bawling calf. very few light cattle again. Pairs and bred cows were also steady. Cull cows were cheaper though. Most cows were $10-$15 lower than last week. There are lots of cows selling all over the United States due to the drought. Between that and the cheap imported hamburger that President Trump is allowing to come in, cows are bound to get cheaper.

7-800 # steers $3.00-$3.40. Heifers to $3.30
8-900 # steers $2.80-$3.29

Bred cows $2000-$3600
High yield cows $1.40-$1.72
Low yield cows $1.00-$1.39

Hard to believe it’s already October next week. the calf run should start soon. Well, that’s it for this week. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and we will see you again here next Thursday.
