Apparently Mother Nature decided to give us a little preview of fall today… and I understood the assignment. 🍂☕📖

It’s rainy and chilly here on the mountain, I’ve got a sweater on, a hot cup of tea in my hand, a good book in my lap, and absolutely no desire to be anywhere other than this porch. 🖤

With September starting tomorrow, days like this have me getting a little excited for what’s coming.

So tell me, farm friends…

What are YOU most looking forward to about fall?

🍁 Cooler mornings?
🥘 Comfort food?
🔥 Bonfires?
🎃 Pumpkin everything?
🍂 Changing leaves?

Saturday farm life, in real time… 🐔😂

Between chasing Jaxon, Odin (our dog) fighting for attention, feeding the chickens, collecting eggs, Smokey (our cat) wondering when the heck HIS breakfast is coming, and realizing I STILL haven’t had my first cup of tea…

I looked down and discovered I PUT MY CHICKEN SHOES ON THE WRONG FEET. 🤦‍♀️🤣

I don’t know what happened.

I don’t know how long they’ve been like this.

And apparently I’ve reached the point in farm life where left and right are merely suggestions. 😆

Somebody bring me a cup of tea before I attempt anything requiring actual brain function.

Friday’s supposed to be our Weekend Preview around here…

Sooooo, here’s your preview: absolutely nothing is going according to plan. 😂

The chickens have been fed. That’s it. That’s the farm update.

We’ve got a grandbaby in the house, approximately 47 things competing for my attention, and the farm chore list is sitting somewhere quietly judging me. 😆

Eventually I’ll make my way outside, see what the gardens have for us, gather eggs, and figure out what we’re working with for the weekend.

Until then… the farm can wait a minute. 🖤

🌈 Sometimes the farm just shows off.

Tonight we got treated to this beautiful double rainbow over the pond and barn… and for a few minutes, everything just stopped.

No chores. No projects. No lists.

Just one of those little moments that makes you stand there and take it all in. 🖤

I came across this photo from last year and immediately thought…

Ohhhh, it’s almost fudge season again. 😂

This beauty was Mark’s Butterfinger fudge — rich, sweet, crunchy, and absolutely not interested in portion control.

Mark is our resident fudge maker around here, and once the weather starts cooling down, he usually starts getting ideas. Which is dangerous for the rest of us. 😂

So now I’m curious…

Do we bring the Butterfinger fudge back this year?

And what other fall flavors should Mark add to the lineup?

One of my favorite things we make here at B.E.G.M. Farm starts with something most people walk right past…

Dandelions.

Those little yellow “weeds” get turned into this beautiful golden, floral syrup that we call our Dandelion Honey. 🖤

It’s lovely in tea, over biscuits or toast, drizzled on warm bread…or straight off the spoon if we’re being honest. 😂

There’s just something I love about taking something simple and overlooked and turning it into something special.

If you’ve never tried dandelion honey before, maybe this is your sign. 🌼

🏡 Today’s behind-the-scenes project looks a little different…

We’re getting ready for our grandson Jaxon to come stay with us for the week. 🖤

And apparently preparing for a 15-month-old means looking at every single thing in the house and asking:

“Can he reach that?”
“Can he climb that?”
“Can he somehow destroy that in under 30 seconds?” 😂

So today is all about childproofing, cleaning, rearranging, and pulling out the toys.

The toys are officially waiting, so I think it’s safe to say we’re just a little excited for him to get here. 🖤

Well…we officially have sprouts!

The alfalfa, ryegrass, barley and oats we planted for the girls are starting to come up under the hay, and now the real question is…

How long do we think this little salad bar is going to survive once the girls get full access? 😂

An hour if they’re feeling generous? 😆

For now, we’re just excited to see green coming up and hoping they let it grow long enough to actually enjoy it.

Sean (Big Louie's) made dinner tonight, and let me tell you… fall-apart oxtail served over buttery egg noodles. Rich, tender, and worth every minute it spent cooking low and slow. I may have fought for my life trying to get a decent picture, but he absolutely nailed the food! 🤤
