Beets & Chard are Loving the Cool Weather! 🥬💚🤠
Some of these greens are going into their third year, growing in the same living soil I’ve continued building with compost and biofertilizers. 🌱🦠
That’s what regenerative growing is about. Instead of growing a crop and leaving the soil depleted, the goal is for that soil to become more alive and fertile with every season. ♻️
Feed the soil. Build the microbiome. Let the microbes help feed the plants.
Grow the microbes, and they’ll help grow the food! 🦠➡️🌱🥬

Beets & Chard are Loving the Cool Weather! 🥬💚🤠

Some of these greens are going into their third year, and you can tell they’ve been loving the biofertilizers, compost, and living soil I’ve built up in their grow pots over the years.

That’s one of my favorite things about regenerative growing—your soil should become better through plant growth, not continually depleted by it. ♻️🌱

Every season, the goal is to build more fertility, more organic matter, and most importantly, a stronger soil microbiome.

Instead of focusing only on feeding the plant, focus on feeding the life beneath it.

Grow the microbes, and they’ll help grow the food for you. 🦠🌱🥬🤠

Jimmy Nardello's Are About Ready to Harvest! 🌶🤠

These peppers may look like they pack some heat, but Jimmy Nardellos are actually sweet peppers! They have a delicious, rich sweetness that can add some awesome flavor to just about any dish.

And when they're grown regeneratively in living, biologically active soil, we're aiming for more than just great flavor—we're growing healthy, nutrient-dense food from healthy soil. ♻️🌱

Can't wait to harvest these and try them in a pasta dish! 🍝🌶🤠

Between the giant wild sunflowers, different types of grasses, and all the other seasonal weeds, our corn, beans, and squash were completely overcrowded! I picked through everything the best I could, barely scavenging a few small ears of dried corn.
But after mowing everything down and getting the squash planted, this little jewel popped up! 😍🌽
This is exactly the kind of corn we're hoping to grow this year! A beautiful blend of deep reds, purples, hints of yellow, and just about every color in between. Nature really knows how to put together some beautiful combinations!
Now I'm even more excited to get our next round of corn into the ground. Hopefully, this time we can make it all the way to harvest without the wild sunflowers and grasses taking over! 😅🌽🤠

Taking advantage of the cooler weather to get our squash starters transplanted into our outdoor natural growing area!
Drilled some holes, got the starters in, and even uncovered a few earthworms along the way! 🪱 Always love seeing signs of life beneath the soil!
Once planted, we covered the surrounding soil with all that dead grass and organic matter. It may look messy, but that material is feeding soil microbes, retaining moisture, and helping regulate soil temperatures. Especially important here in the desert!
Finished everything off by watering in a mixture of compost tea and Effective Microorganisms (EM) to introduce beneficial microbes and help our squash get established after transplanting. 🦠🌱
If this fall is anything like last year, we should have plenty of time to get a harvest before our first frost!
Next up, getting the corn in the ground! 🌽🤠
