Thank you to all who came out for the Virtual Fence Field Day last week! 🐄

We came away excited about how virtual fencing opens up a new level of grazing management most people never thought possible, including moving animals up to 4 times a day—something we’d never done before.

We were struck by dramatic increase in grazing days from better pasture utilization— which is especially significant in hilly country like ours.

Virtual fencing isn’t just a tool, it’s a whole new level of management precision.

The Paicines Ranch sheep flock made the news! 🐑

BenitoLink just covered our grazing partnership with our neighbors at Thousand Trails. In May, 2,000+ of our sheep spent five days at the campground grazing 33 acres of dry grass, reducing wildfire fuel ahead of summer.

And, this work goes beyond fuel reduction. As our livestock manager Martha Skelley shared, the flock is central to "meeting our ecological goals, which is biodiversity of our rangeland."

When neighbors work together, fire prevention and land health go hand in hand — and it supports San Benito County's community-wide wildfire protection goals, too.

Each morning started the same way: a ritual on the land, to root us in the learning to come. That rhythm set the tone for everything that followed.

Gathering Fire 2026 is a wrap — and we are so grateful.

This year’s participants came from across the country — land stewards and farmworker advocates, policy organizers and coalition builders, farm educators and cultural workers — all rooted in rural communities. They arrived as facilitators and left as a community. We are humbled by the trust they placed in this space and moved by what they made possible together.

Deep gratitude to and for their mastery and heart, to the team for the radical hospitality that makes this possible, and to every participant who showed up fully.
