We're so excited to be partner with Southwest Licking Local Schools again for the 3rd year in a row, to bring our fresh, homegrown produce directly to the cafeterias of all the schools in our district! We made our first deliveries this week, and will continue until the end of our growing season.

Wow you all showed up yesterday for you pick! Yesterday was the busiest Wednesday we've ever had on the farm, and one of the busiest you pick days we've ever had, so thank you!!!

Several things were picked clean yesterday, so here is what we will have available to pick tomorrow, Friday August 28.

Green tomatoes
Cucumbers
Eggplant
Bell peppers
Banana peppers
Green chili peppers
Green habaneros
A limited amount of hard corn

We are opening another tomato field with ripe tomatoes in it Saturday, but it is not available for picking in tomorrow.

***Sweet corn update! ***

The rain has caused the next planting of silver king corn to get ready early! We have it at the stand today, and will have it for about a week. This is the last planting of silver king, since the last planting got ruined by the flooding.

The weather has also caused the corn tip worms to show up early, so a lot of the ears do have damage on the tips of the ears. They’re not harmful. They’re not dangerous. And yes - the corn is perfectly safe to eat.

Tip worms show up because our corn is grown outside, in real soil, under real sunshine, without chemical sprays, and it's not a GMO.

Most of the time, they stay right at the very tip. You just cut that part off and enjoy the rest of the ear - sweet, juicy, and delicious!

Unfortunately this isn't something we can control without using excessive chemical sprays, which we don't want to do.

Please don't husk back all of the ears on the table looking for the perfect ear. Just assumed that the tip is messed up, and cut the end off before you husk it. This is why we give 14 ears in a Birney's Dozen, because they aren't always perfect.

The worms like our corn just as much as we do, we can't really blame them for that, can we? 😅😅

YOU PICK UPDATE!

The waters have receded in most areas of the farm, so we will be OPEN tomorrow, Wednesday, August 26 for you pick from 10am-7pm. Unfortunately some plants didn't survive the flooding, but the ones that survived are looking good, and since we haven't had a you pick day in 10 days, the plants are loaded up with lots of things to pick! This week for you pick we have :

🍅 Tomatoes
🍆 Eggplant
🥒 Cucumbers
🫑 Sweet peppers (bell, sweet banana, marconi)
Medium hot peppers (hot wax, jalapeños, cayenne)
🌶️ Hot peppers (Thai chili's, habaneros)
Bitter gourd
🫘 Long beans
🌽 Hard/strong/field corn
Okra

There are still areas of the fields that are muddy, and the mosquitoes are thriving, so plan accordingly. We will also be open Friday and Saturday 10am-7pm for you pick.

We have some of the most amazing customers! Thank you Kathy for this beautiful cake! It's been a rough couple of weeks with all of the rain and flooding, and this definitely brought us some joy!

Even though the you pick is closed, the stand is open and stocked. Farmer Caren will be at the stand until 7pm, so stop by and stock up for the weekend!

Unfortunately the Silver king corn was ruined by the rain, but the next planting of Kick - off (bi-color) is getting ready so we have it at the stand today.

No you pick Friday 8/21 and Saturday 8/22 due to flooding!
The stand will be open with pre-picked items.

***You pick update ***

Unfortunately, we've gotten 5" more rain at the farm in the last 24 hours and the fields are all under water again. Out of an abundance of caution we are going to have the YOU PICK CLOSED Friday, August 21, and Saturday, August 22.

We hope to reopen Wednesday, August 26th. We will open the new tomato field on Wednesday and another tomato field on Saturday, August 29th.

We will do our best to keep the stand stocked the next few days, as we're able to get to the field to pick. We will have a limited amount of Silver King corn at the stand this afternoon, but part of the corn field isn't accessible at this time.

We are all safe, and our homes and structures are OK, which we are extremely grateful for. We're praying for our friends and neighbors who were affected by the flooding.
