Just so those who are interested know, Great North Woods Teas will NOT be at the PI Farmers' Market this week. Some one told us there was no market because of the 4th of July, so we are going to be in Houlton on the 3rd at the craft fair on the Common by the Library. We will be back at PIFM on the 10th. Up and going off to make tea batches and FQs. Great North Woods Teas & Herbs has two events coming up in May: Trash and Treasure Sale at the Forum on May 1 and 2, 9-5 on Saturday, and May 2, 10 to 4.
Then we will be at the Fiddlehead Festival Craft Fair, part of The County's Fiddlehead Festival, in the old K-Mart section of the Aroostook Mall in Presque Isle on Saturday, May 22 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
We have new teas we are rolling out at both, along with your usual favorites!

Spring is just around the corner and it's time to start thinking of great summer beverages, using our Great North Woods teas as the base. Consider a chai punch that's easy and fast to make, and sure to be a favorite.
Ingredients are:

One Fat Quarter of Neil's Chai
4 cups of water
1/4 cup of honey
4 sticks of whole cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
1 lemon, sliced
1 lime, sliced
1 small orange, sliced and seeded if necessary
A 32 ounce bottle of ginger ale or club soda

Boil water and steep the tea, in a cheese cloth or muslin pouch, in the hot water for eight to ten minutes. Chill for 10 minutes. Slice the fruit and place in a large punch bowl of pitcher. Add whole cinnamon sticks and nutmeg and pour water into punch bowl or pitcher. Stir well and add ginger ale or club soda and refrigerate for two to four hours, To serve, stir again and pour over ice in tall glasses. Add additional cinnamon sticks for stirrers.
Some people like adding a bit of milk to give it a creamier taste, but we recommend no more than a few teaspoons per eight ounce glass.

It’s snowing again up here in the far north of Maine, but a week ago, the fields behind the house were bare and the world was awash with water. That got me leaning toward summer and the great punches that can be made from teas, both caffeinated and caffeine free, for summer sipping in the shade during the hot summer days. Many of our teas find their way into punches, that have more flavor and are generally healthier than anything you can buy off the shelf. I’ve been going through my mother’s and great grandmother’s old recipe books and over the next few weeks, I’ll be posting tea punch recipes made with our small batch blends. Watch for new ways to use Lemon Irish Breakfast, Black Vanilla, Raspberry Love, and other teas we blend.
