Here’s Jake’s supply list for what he used to make our cattle sweep system. 🔨🛠️🔧🔩

PART 2 - going over the caveats to this system. These are two things that could be potential issues that Jake has noticed.

Keep these things in mind if you are considering building something like for your farm! Because remember, we aren’t professionals. Just farmers trying to help other farmers.

We call this “redneck ingenuity” around here! 😆

Here’s part 1 of Jake going over how he built this piece for our cattle sweep. 🐮

Part 2 will be going over the caveat to this system.

Remember, we aren’t professionals by any means, just sharing in hopes that it can help other farmers! We fully believe that farming is a community, so if sharing what we’re building can help even one person figure out something for their own cattle working area, we hope it does.

Moving a lot slower the further along I get into this pregnancy.. I’m thankful that I’ve only got one calf to halter train currently!

For those that will ask - Strawberry is not a full highland. She’s half highland & half angus. The angus in her makes her a LOT bigger than our AHCA registered calves at this age, which makes halter training a challenging adventure. But we love her just the same! 🤎

An updated progress video on what Jake has accomplished on our working system so far. 🐮

One of the biggest reasons we are sharing this is to hopefully inspire other people on creating a working system for their own cattle. While we aren’t professionals by any means, we still hope this helps others. If you have cows, you NEED a system in place to help take care of them.

We don’t have the funds to invest in a fancy working system right now. Or even have a good place to put it where we actually want it, which is here at the barn. So we are being creative in using materials we already have lying around here on the farm to create the system that works perfectly for us & our cattle operation.

Haltering cows looks a little different when you’re 28 weeks pregnant! I’m extra cautious to make sure I’m keeping myself & the baby safe.

I should also probably stop calling my 3 heifers “calves” - they’re technically yearling heifers now. But they’ll always be my babies! 🤣

Jake’s made a lot of progress over the past few days! Excited to see him continue to build this out & see our working area come to life!

Day 5 of halter training for Strawberry W**e, post-brushing. While she’s only 6 months old, she’s just as big as the 1 year old AHCA heifers she’s with.

She gets that big b***y from her angus momma. 😝🐮
