Owning and breeding goats definitely has its rewards but can come with so many challenges. 🐐
First of all, I absolutely LOVE goat kids, especially during their curiosity phase. 😂
And my current mama goats are just sweet and simple. 🥰
But today, I spent 5 hours cleaning and disinfecting stalls, washing & medicating goats and then putting them into quarantine. We've been fighting with Coccidiosis, and I'm so tired of it! I'm grateful it's not anything worse but I'm freaking exhausted. 😩
I think after today we're going to see a light at the end of the tunnel, but dang these parasites! 😡
This is such a common problem in goats, it's not ever 100% preventable and if you catch it soon enough and treat immediately, they aren't likely to get worse. I'm so grateful to our Veterinarian, who knows us well, and is quick to provide whatever I need to get my herd back in good health. 🩺
We also have a great goat community that is willing to help whenever needed. 🤠
We're expanding our Boer herd in the next year, I'm excited but also apprehensive due to the known illnesses that can transmit quickly. I will just need to stay on top of everything!
I'm also getting rid of my chickens 😭 I don't want to keep them penned up, so they free range, but they also can bring it things to the goats that continue to add to the sickness. So off to another local farm they go! I'm a little sad.
