I rescued three dogs last year. They wandered up to the coffee shop more than once, looking worse each time. Something happened to their owner and they were, for lack of a better descriptor, abandoned. Lou Lou and Theo(dosia) found their forever homes with me and my daughter.

The third dog, Moe (known in the streets as Smoke), was their daddy, and he became the deeply loved partner in crime of Jessica Kicklighter. Moe is no longer with us but his memory lives on in The Underdog Project, Inc., a fully licensed animal support resource launched this week. (Non-profit status comes next.) I am NOT the driver of this train… that would be the OTHER Jessica, the one with the grooming shop, Uptown Hounds.

This is NOT an animal shelter. What we are trying to do is connect people that have stuff they don’t want or need, like dog houses, kennels, and fences, with people who would take or keep a dog if they had the resources. Things like supply an elderly person with pet food and a spay/neuter vet visit so they don’t have to share their food with their animal. It’s The Underdog Project. We help the underdog.

Everyone wants to help and it’s A LOT right now at the launch of all this. There is a lot to organize. I have made a volunteer signup form just so we can keep up with names, contact info, and what everyone says they are able do. I am going to drop the link below. If you are interested in being part of the stray animal solution locally and supporting The Underdog Project, fill it out and get on our list.
