Last night the Chester County Beekeepers had our annual honey tasting contest. It’s something we all look forward to each year. Mainly because we get to taste honey! It’s so much fun. Last night was even more of a treat because we had a guest from Hillco, a beekeeping equipment company in Illinois. Both girls got to talk to the owner about our small operation. He was so gracious to listen to them and encourage them to keep following their dreams. We were also thrilled that we won second place in the honey tasting contest.

After the meeting a few of us stayed behind for some apitherapy. A friend has been having some problems with her neck and one beekeeper has a set from Pollen Peddlers a company in NC that ships live bees every week of the year. Of course he catches his own bees but the kit came with a small CO2 canister that he uses to put the bees to sleep, then uses reverse tweezers to catch them easier. He placed them on the back of our neck then tapped them awake to deliver the sting. We always thank the bees for their service. We left the stinger in for about 15 minutes for the stinger to release most of the venom. Now we were prepared with an Epi-pen but we all have been stung before. Our friend had good success with her neck feeling some better today. As for me I woke up today headache free for the first time in several days. I was expecting the sites to be a little more irritated today but that wasn’t the case. Definitely plan on ordering some books on bee venom therapy and partaking a little more in this area as we continue to find more ways the bees can help us.

Thank y’all for being patient with us. Nana has been in the hospital since last week but has greatly improved. We have restocked our cheese crisps at Varney Mercantile this afternoon. We won’t have scones this week but will have them back next week. We also will be restocking more items this week. See you soon! Thanks again for all the support!

You can’t tell me herbal remedies don’t work. Today at 12:30 Madelyn got stung at the farm by a wasp or yellow jacket with Dad. Only thing they had was our daily salve with (Lavender, Calendula, plantain, our beeswax, jojoba oil, almond oil, vitamin E). As soon as we got home we did spit plantain/peppermint poultice), pulled it off at 2:30. Now look at it!
