Feeding our bees this morning with the local bee expert Allen Heilman. Everyone in this area knows theat Allen is the bee whisperer! Allen has so much knowledge about bees and we are thankful for his willingness to help us. These bees play a vital role on the pollination of our watermelons and cantaloupe. A bonus for all of our customers at Bratcher Melons fruit stand is you can find this honey along with Heilman Honey at our stand this Summer!

A busy weekend at Bratcher Melons preparing for melon season. We started with marking and opening our rows on the melon field. We also begin prepping the greenhouse for the bigguns! We do all work for the greenhouse from the outside which includes 100 drip lines. Once we make our final till then foot prints are off limits! The drip lines are tied into the header and pulled across from the ends. Our goal is to keep the soil loose with no soil compaction to allow the vines to go wild. Next we will add our walking boards and straw mat to give the melons something to grab on to. Trust me it is a job!
