Early 1990s at Tante Marie’s Cooking School in San Francisco, where I had the wonderful opportunity to be the lead teacher for Indian cooking. Sharing the vibrant flavors, techniques, and traditions of Indian cuisine with eager students was such a special chapter in my culinary journey.

Looking back at this photo brings back so many wonderful memories—long before my cookbooks and packaged foods, when teaching and sharing my love of Indian food were already at the heart of what I do. ✨🌿

Standing in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., and seeing copies of both of my cookbooks preserved in this remarkable institution was deeply moving.
From the pages of Laxmi’s Vegetarian Kitchen to The Dance of Spices—books that began as a passion for food, culture, and sharing the flavors of my heritage—to now seeing them preserved at the Library of Congress… I feel incredibly grateful and humbled.

✨ Feeling especially humbled looking back at these two milestones in my journey as a food writer and author.
📖 Laxmi’s Vegetarian Kitchen (1995) and The Dance of Spices (2005) — both publishers approached me after seeing my work in the San Francisco Chronicle. I never had to write a proposal for either book; they believed in my work and invited me to bring my culinary voice to life.

I’m deeply grateful for the trust, the opportunities, and the journey that followed. ❤️🙏
