We took a little trip to Dip Me Darlin and WOW… what a sweet treat! 😍

We love discovering other small, local businesses and seeing what our neighbors are creating. And let’s just say… we definitely didn’t leave empty-handed! 😂🍬

A long but heartfelt post………

Today would have been my Nanny’s birthday.

When I think about her, I don’t just think about the things she made. I think about all the things she taught me.

She taught me how to embroider by hand, & how to sew and crochet, how to grow a garden, how to preserve and can the things we grew, and most importantly, how to be independent and capable. So many of the skills I use today, especially here at ShellBee Homestead all have roots that trace right back to her.

It didn’t matter what the occasion was, a holiday, Christmas party, or one of our family reunions at Guntersville Dam. If her onion rings were there, they were always the first thing I went looking for.

I’ve continued making them throughout my life. Whenever I take a jar to a gathering, someone always asks me for the recipe. & it brings me joy knowing that her recipe has now been shared dozens of times. It’s being passed from friends and family, to their families.

A recipe may look like nothing more than ingredients written on a piece of paper, but sometimes it carries an entire lifetime of memories with it.

So today, on her birthday, I wanted to honor her not just by making her recipe again, but once again sharing it with others. This weekend we have a few jars of Nanny’s onions available at the farm stand.
