Taqueria El Barrio is a family run, traditional Sonoran style Taqueria & Catering Company. Sonora is a state in Northern Mexico, where one of their co-founders, Servio is from. Northern Mexico and Sonora are known for their handmade flour tortillas, and they take pride in their homemade tortillas de harina (flour tortillas). Co-founders Servio Garcia and Alex Saenz have been in the Boston restaurant scene for a combined 40+ years. Alex as chef and Servio as owner of some of Boston's best restaurants.
The two joined forces to open Taqueria El Barrio while Alex was the chef of Servio's restaurant, Bisq. Taqueria El Barrio opened its first location on Comm Ave in Brookline in late 2019, serving authentic flour tortillas and traditional Northern Mexican tacos, quesadillas, salsas, etc. COVID quickly shuttered this location, but to keep the staff employed, they started selling raw flour tortillas & salsa macha at many local grocers in the Boston area, and their retail tortillas quickly gained a cult-like following!
Home delivery customers can add delicious El Barrio tortillas to their next order. But you can also visit El Barrio within the Time Out Market by Fenway, or at their location in Portico Brewery in Somerville! You can even visit them and have Crescent Ridge for dessert during the summer at Trillium in Canton as we both have small outposts there seasonally! 🌯🍦
