Action Committee for Transit Montgomery County's Advocates for Better Transportation The Action Committee for Transit has a vision of better communities and better transit.

We believe fundamental changes are needed in transportation and land use policies to give the people of Montgomery County and Maryland the quality of life we deserve. Our broad membership and active volunteers give us the ability to make the voice of transit riders -- and those who would like to ride transit if it were more available -- heard in Rockville, Annapolis, and Washington. At the same time, we continue to educate the public about the needs of transit. Our organization is democratically governed and we are sustained financially by our members.

Come to ACT's October 13 Meeting!

The Action Committee for Transit will host a screening of the documentary Not in Service and a Q&A with filmmaker David Sebastiao afterwards. This movie tells the story of the cancellation of Baltimore’s Red Line project. It examines how decades of inequitable government decisions led to disinvestment and car dominance in Baltimore. The film highlights the perspectives of residents, activists, and local leaders.

Thanks to Natali Fani-González and the Montgomery County MD Council for working to improve pedestrian safety in the Wheaton Mall area, an area that has been too dangerous for too long. The McComas Avenue Greenway project in Wheaton/Kensington delivers key infrastructure upgrades to enhance pedestrian and bicyclist safety along McComas Avenue near Wheaton MallThese improvements extend from St. Paul St. to Georgia Avenue and include enhancements on Douglas Ave.

Did you know that a cyclist has the 'Right of Way' (ROW) over a driver when riding on a sidewalk that crosses a driveway or parking lot entrance? We thought you did.
The bad news is you can't count on the Montgomery County Police to know this law. They recently declared a cyclist to be at fault when the cyclist was hit by a driver while on the sidewalk crossing a driveway. The photograph, below, shows the location of the crash.
ACT noted the police made the same error in the same area a year ago.
As ACT's Ben Ross said: "A bicyclist legally cycling on a sidewalk *always* has the right of way over a driver on a driveway. Yet the police twice - at the same driveway - say the cyclist failed to yield ROW."
We say: Cyclists, KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!
Drivers, KNOW YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES!
