Taking a break from log cabin building, to use some vacation time to prep for winter. Squeezed in a quick batch of crushed tomatoes for the freezer last week... But today, I'm firing up the old water bath canner, since we have two flats of tomatoes ready.... And many more green ones on the vines.

A few cherry tomatoes, and a slicer variety called 4th of July.... Not sure if they're supposed to be this small, or if it's because things are so dry. They're cute and there's a lot of them... But I'm glad I have a lot of other varieties because it will take an awful lot of these to amount to much sauce or salsa.

Never had this happen before.
Thought there had been fewer eggs lately, and thought another chicken was missing .... Today, the dogs discovered one hiding under a tree in thick brush, not far outside from the coop fence.... With..... About 9 or 10 chicks. And they are black, yellow and grey. That's clearly more than just her eggs.... So 1.) what other secret piles of eggs have the chickens been laying. And 2) fingers crossed they don't get hunted because I don't know how to catch this crew they run away so fast.

Mum, don't worry, if you drop one, I'll catch it for you.
