Friday we got half an inch of rain in about 20 minutes. This is the backside of that rain. Every drop helps. AND when it’s as dry as it’s been, the rain water doesn’t have a chance to pe*****te, it just flows over the dry ground. The pig pasture is still bone dry just a mere 1/2” down into the earth.

We’ve been “googly-eyed”!

We drove past our haylege bales at one of our satellite fields this morning and got a good chuckle when we saw the googly eyes pasted on the middle bale.

While we’ve had issues in the past with trouble makers messing with our bales, these googly eyes we see as pure fun. No person or feed was harmed in the pulling of this prank ❤️😂🌱

Sunday morning we were startled by the cattle bellowing angrily. A young raven was flapping (without flying) around their pasture and they were sincerely unimpressed.

threw a towel over the raven and we were able to deliver the bird safely to Skybird Wildlife Center, where they assessed and moved the raven to Avian Haven for rehabilitation.

Please rain.
I woke up this morning at 6:20 to the sound of a light drizzle outside and hand watering the raised bed gardens.

While the drought isn’t quite as severe as 2025, it’s still not great. Farmers count on the second cut of hay for the nutritional punch to help ruminant animals grow through the winter. We’re pushing cutting back one more week. Praying for more rain and more grass growth to help make using the diesel in three machines worth it.

We just took our first ever full family vacation in the summer! A week in Rangeley. It was magic.
🥾So many great hikes *ahem* “walks”.
🥩So much amazing food (mostly brought with us from the farm, cooked almost exclusively by Farmer Steveo)
👩‍🦱 Magnolia joined us on day 3!
💦 Swam in many mountain streams and lakes
🍄‍🟫 Many mushrooms found and studied
🛶 Rented kayaks for a morning paddle
💤 Not enough naps were had…
🍦 Many ice creams and candy to keep Addie going on our *walks*
🫎 3 moose sightings
📍 Other small businesses supported and connections made.

Most memorable is simply being together and being able to let down and take a breath midsummer. What a lovely adventure! Thank you Rangeley, Maine!
