One more monumental project that has undertaken before winter.

We built the hog barn in 2017-2018. In the 8 winters we’ve housed pigs in here, their urine and p**p have rusted the penning (despite being the cleanest pig barn with daily mucking and yearly power washing).

So! The panels are coming down, the feet (and in a few instances the panels themselves) are being replaced and it all has to be back together by thanksgiving to welcome the piggies back into the hog barn for winter.

Big shout out to Justin for welding the feet and Matt for coming to do the panel work!

New offering! We’re starting a new program to help our neighbors. Times are tight for all of us and some weeks we just need a little extra to make it work. So this “Pay-It-Forward” board is here. Freshly seeded with $500 from a very generous neighbor, if you need a little extra to make groceries work, please take the post-it amount you need and we’ll apply it to your order!

Alternatively, you are welcome to add a post-it to the board. We’ll be keeping a dedicated fund going to help any customer.

On our 70 acres of Forever Farm here at Old Crow Ranch, we have a dedicated “pig pasture”. split the pasture into 3 fields and each year he fences the next field in the rotation into multiple paddocks and rotates the piggies around the field. It’s been so dry these past two years, regrowth of the forage between pig herds hasn’t had a chance. But there are enough paddocks that for at least the first few days piggies are in a new paddock they have forage to eat before they flip all the sod.

These pastured piggies say: “eat more chicken!”

We won’t have a pork restock until October. We have plenty of sausage (10 varieties of links and loose packed), butts, shoulders and hams… but we’re out of belly bacon, jowl bacon, tenderloin and smoked chops until the next round of pork comes in.

We are also sold out of whole hogs and very low on sides of pork for 2026.

Thank you for loving our pork almost as much as we do!

Friday we got half an inch of rain in about 20 minutes. This is the backside of that rain. Every drop helps. AND when it’s as dry as it’s been, the rain water doesn’t have a chance to pe*****te, it just flows over the dry ground. The pig pasture is still bone dry just a mere 1/2” down into the earth.

We’ve been “googly-eyed”!

We drove past our haylege bales at one of our satellite fields this morning and got a good chuckle when we saw the googly eyes pasted on the middle bale.

While we’ve had issues in the past with trouble makers messing with our bales, these googly eyes we see as pure fun. No person or feed was harmed in the pulling of this prank ❤️😂🌱
